Greetings!
Spring - what comes to mind - CLEANING, POLLEN, OPEN WINDOWS, THERMOSTAT TURNED DOWN, FLOWERS, GRASS? I sure have a mixed bag of good and bad. In our winter newsletter we spoke about loving living here in the Northeast with the Cold and Snow - what was I thinking! As you can see from my comments above, I come to Spring with a mixed blessing as well. The biggest thing - Winter is Over! NNot back for 8 months.
Now is the time to start thinking about those great summer vacations. By using a pet sitter in your planning you will know your pets are keeping their regular schedule and safely in their own beds, and this is a great peace of mind. Animals are creatures of habit. Studies show the more you can keep a routine, the happier the pet. Your pet sitters love animals and it is truly a Win-Win-Win situation. Happy Pet Sitters, Happy Owners and Happy Pets |

A Wonderful Charity Event - Bring your Dogs and Your Appetite |
|
| A Letter to My Pets |
Dear Dogs and Cats,
The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.
The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.
I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible.
I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.
For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years -- canine or feline attendance is not required.
The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough!
To pacify you, my dear pets, I have posted the following message on our front door:
To All Non-Pet Owners Who Visit & Like to Complain About Our Pets:
1.They live here. You don't.
2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. (That's why they call it 'fur'niture.)
3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people. To you, it's an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly.
Yours truly,
Your Pet Parents |

Exercise is one of the best ways to spend time with your dog. Not only is it fun, it help keep you and your pet healthy. Exercise can help you both sleep better, give you more energy and help build good, strong bones and muscles. What you do to exercise with your dog depends on what kind of dog you have. Large dogs need more exercise than small dogs - at least two walks a day. Puppies love to wrestle and chase; they never seem to run out of energy. Some dogs like to play Frisbee in the park. But if your dog is older, he may just want to take walks in the neighborhood. Whatever you do, exercising with your dog should be fun. It should also be SAFE. So today I would like to give you a quick list of 6 things you should NOT do when exercising your dog. By avoiding these 6 things you will eliminate the risk of injury to you and your dog.
-
Don't ride a bike with your dog on a leash.
-
Don't skateboard with your dog on a leash.
-
Don't rollerblade with your dog on a leash.
-
Don't exercise when it is very hot or very cold.
-
Don't let your dog run loose near traffic.
-
Don't exercise your dog right before or after he eats.
Well, I hope you get out to enjoy this springtime weather with your pet. And remember, exercise is as important for your dog as it is for you.
All My Best, Dr. Jon | |
