. During this thirty day period, health experts across the country are joining forces to increase public awareness about both the causes and cures for our modern stress epidemic.

Stress comes in all shapes and sizes, and it has become so universal that it seems to affect everything and everybody.  Levels of stress - both physical and mental - and the ability to cope with it are different for everyone.

When relaxation turns into exhaustion and a sense of satisfaction turns into feelings of stress the stage is set for illness, injury and job failure.

When you're bordering on exhaustion, exercise may be the very last thing you feel like doing.  However, helping your body relieve stress through planned and focused exercise will improve your stamina, help you feel good about yourself, and actually help avoid exhaustion in the long run.

You'll be amazed at how a good sweat will lighten your spirit!

Fit Tip of the Month
How Much Is Too Much?

Unless you are planning to compete in a bodybuilding or figure competition, you do not need to weight train for more than an hour at a time.  After 60 minutes of weight training, our muscle building & fat burning hormones begin to deplete while cortisol levels (fat storing & muscle burning hormone) increase.

Many people automatically think MORE = BETTER, but that's not necessarily true. If you are putting maximum effort andEnergizer Bunny concentration into your resistance training workouts, your muscles should be utterly exhausted by the time you finish.

In other words, if you still feel like the Energizer Bunny two hours into the workout (because you can keep going and going and going and...), you're not pushing yourself hard enough.  So next time you're working out, crank up the intensity and reclaim some of your precious time.

Veggie Tricks
Unique Ways to Sneak More Veggies Into Your Diet
Eat Your Veggies
Do you find it easier to scrub the toilet than get all of your recommended servings of veggies throughout the day?  You may need to get creative with how you include vegetables along with your normal meals.

  • Add lettuce and tomato to all of your burgers and sandwiches.
  • Ask the pizza place to toss some mushrooms and green peppers onto your Friday night splurge.
  • Pass up on the occasional muffin, and choose zucchini bread instead.
  • Substitute a yummy sweet potato for your typical rice or pasta side dish.
  • Dice or mince some green veggies (spinach, green pepper, broccoli, etc.) into your meat loaf before you run it in the oven. You won't even be able to taste it...I promise!
