Where Food, Fitness and Fun Are a Way of Life
|
March 2008
|
Greetings!
March is National Nutrition Month, so we're focused on eating well to help reduce the risk
of chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes, obesity, and hypertension.
For the next 30 days, we encourage you to eat a variety of healthy foods in the right
amounts so your body gets the nutrients needed to maintain good health
and work properly.
This sounds simple enough, but putting it into practice can prove difficult for even the most disciplined among us, so don't feel discouraged if you don't get it right the first time. Stay committed to making wise food choices, and all of your hard work will pay off. This month's coupons at the bottom of the page were designed to help you Eat Well, Feel Good & De-Stress.
There is no better time than today...
Healthy Living,
Amber O'Neal Owner/Head Trainer

Fit Tip of the Month
The Truth About Post-Workout Soreness
After a hard workout, most people begin to experience soreness within 24-48 hours in the body parts that were trained. This aching is known as delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and can last for up to a week after first setting in.
Working out should be challenging, and some soreness is normal - especially when first getting started with a new fitness program. The more your body adapts to the workload you impose on it, the less soreness you'll feel. In fact, if you continue to repeat the same workout over and over again, it will eventually cease to make you sore. However, at that point you will also cease to make any progress because progressive overload is the key to getting stronger and toned.
Feeling sore? A therapeutic massage may be just what you need. Visit Spa Flow for more information, and take advantage of a complimentary 60-minute massage with the coupon at the bottom of this page.

Using a Registered Dietitian
Ten Reasons to Consult With a Registered Dietitian:
You have diabetes, cardiovascular problems or high blood pressure. An
RD serves as an integral part of your health-care team by helping you
safely change your eating plan without compromising taste or nutrition.
- You are thinking of having or have had gastric bypass surgery.
A
registered dietitian will help you learn to eat again. Since your
stomach can only manage small servings, it's a challenge to get the
right amount of nutrients in your body. An RD will work with you and
your physician to develop an eating plan for your new needs. - You have digestive problems.
A
registered dietitian will work with your physician to help fine-tune
your diet so you are not aggravating your condition with fried foods,
too much caffeine or carbonation. - You're pregnant or trying to get pregnant.
A
registered dietitian can help make sure you get nutrients like folate,
especially during the first three months of pregnancy, lowering your
newborn's risk for neural tube or spinal cord defects. - You need guidance and confidence for breastfeeding your baby.
A
registered dietitian can help make sure you're getting enough iron,
vitamin D, fluoride and B vitamins for you and your little one. - Your teenager has issues with food and eating healthfully.
A registered dietitian can assist with eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia and overweight issues. - You need to gain or lose weight.
A registered
dietitian can suggest additional calorie sources for healthy weight
gain or a restricted-calorie eating plan plus regular physical activity
for weight loss while still eating all your favorite foods. - You're caring for an aging parent.
A registered
dietitian can help with food or drug interaction, proper hydration,
special diets for hypertension and changing taste buds as you age. - You want to eat smarter.
A registered
dietitian can help you sort through misinformation; learn how to read
labels at the supermarket; discover that healthy cooking is
inexpensive, learn how to eat out without ruining your eating plan and
how to resist workplace temptations. - You want to improve your performance in sports.
A
registered dietitian can help you set goals to achieve results -
whether you're running a marathon, skiing or jogging with your dog.
