Greetings!

        Mother's Day is a time to celebrate and honor moms everywhere.  Sadly, so many of the children in our program have lost their biological mother due to disease, extreme poverty and other unfortunate circumstances.  And yet, almost all of our children have a woman in their life whom they consider "mama" ~ be it their grandma, an auntie, teacher or even their beloved sponsor.

        At Children of Uganda we want to support initiatives that empower women in Uganda to become strong and self-sufficient so that they can offer a better life for the children in their care.  That is why we have partnered with the Kabano Bakyala Herbal Association of Ssanje, a local women's group that comes together to produce handcrafted items including soap and herbal Vaseline, traditional banana leaf soccer balls, beaded necklaces and more. 

        The women sell their crafts in the Ssanje Village Trading Center, which is located nearby our Sabina Primary Boarding School in the Rakai District of Uganda.  The profits they make primarily go towards paying school fees and requirements for their children.  There are 25 women total in the group and some of them have students in Children of Uganda's sponsorship program.

        Their beaded necklaces are particulary beautiful and are made of colorful recycled magazine clippings, so each one is purely unique ~ just like mom!  You can purchase one today to show the special mother in your life as well as our beloved kids how much you truly care.
