VNA Welcomes Laura Nakoneczny

 

It is with tremendous excitement that we introduce to you, the Virginia Nurses Association's (VNA) new Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Laura Nakoneczny, CAE, IOM. After diligently searching for an appropriate candidate, the VNA search committee is happy to announce that Laura will be joining VNA on March 19, 2012.

 

Laura comes to us from Raleigh, NC where she has over 20 years experience in association management. She has been successful in raising visibility and increasing membership within the organizations she has served. Her strengths include public policy advocacy and financial management. A graduate of the University of Iowa, Laura has a BA in Communications; in 2001 she earned the designation of Certified Association Executive (CAE). Laura brings to the Virginia Nurses Association the combination of enthusiasm and management experience that our members have come to appreciate and expect.

 

Thanks to the VNA search committee for their hard work in locating our next Chief Executive Officer. Laura and her family will be relocating to Richmond and are excited about their move to Virginia. In the following weeks, there will be information forthcoming as to how you can meet our new Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Laura Nakoneczny.

 

Nominations are now being Accepted

Now is your chance to participate in your professional association! 

 

The VNA Nominating Committee is accepting nominations for the election of officers.  The next election takes place electronically, this summer.

 

Members who would like to submit their name to the Nominations Committee for consideration of an elected position are strongly encouraged to take the time to review job descriptions as outlined on the VNA website

 

The following Board positions are open for the 2012 Election:

  • Secretary
  • Director at Large
  • Direcotor at Large (New Grad)
  • Commissioner of Work Force Issues
  • Commissioner of Nursing Education
  • Commissioner of Nursing Practice
  • Three openings for the Nominating Committee

 

The VNA Nominating Committee will create a slate of nominees; they are available to provide guidance, answer any questions and generally work with you to facilitate the process. Questions may be directed to the VNA office at 804-282-1808 or emailed to admin@virginianurses.com

 Nursing Alliance for Quality Care and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners

  

On March 27, 2012, the Nursing Alliance for Quality Care and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners are hosting a symposium that addresses important opportunities and challenges posed for registered nurses and APRNs in the creation and implementation of Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs).  It will take place in Washington, DC at the Washington Court Hotel, 525 New Jersey Avenue, Northwest; from 8:30 am-3:45 pm.

 

Speakers include Dr. Kavita Patel, Barbara Safreit, Joyce Dubow, Dr. Ellen-Marie Whelan and experts from several successful nurse managed health centers and health systems who are negotiating contracts with ACOs in their communities.

 

Experts will address how to maintain the APRN scope of practice in the presence of ACOs, as well as how to carve out and gain recognition of important roles for registered nurses within the various ACO models. The program is designed for both APRNs and RNs.
