Evening & Sunday Hours Restored!

The staff of the Central Rappahannock Regional Library are thrilled to announce restoration of the evening and Sunday hours that were curtailed two years ago due to budget cuts.  Starting on Sunday, July 8, the Porter, England Run and Headquarters libraries joined the Salem Church library in opening from 1:00-5:30 on Sundays.  Starting the week of July 8, the Porter, England Run and Headquarters libraries joined the Salem Church and Snow libraries in staying open until 9:00 Monday through Thursday.

Library Board chairman Dr. Sam Smart commented, "We have worked over the last two years to get to the point where we could re-open these branches on Sundays and evenings.  Speaking on behalf of the Library Board, I am thrilled that the public will now have access to library services and resources every day of the week."

Library Director Donna Cote expressed her appreciation of the support the Central Rappahannock Regional Library received from the local jurisdictions that made it possible to restore library hours.  "It's heartening to know that libraries are considered an essential public service, not just by library users but by the elected officials in our area," she said.

Making Summer Count: CRRL Summer Programs Boost Children's Learning

The library provides year-round high quality education for everyone in the community.

During summer vacation, many students lose knowledge and skills. Educators are increasingly promoting summer reading and learning as a key strategy to improving achievement. In fact, a recent study has shown that children who joined public library summer reading clubs did better on fall standardized tests than their classmates who didn't join.

Some 10,000 kids and teens will join CRRL summer reading clubs this year-more than any other summer activity in our region.

CRRL helps kids and families find the books they want to read all summer long.

Enlightening library events for kids, like Our Wild World by Animals Unlimited, offer instructive summer fun opportunities.

DIY Fun activities encourage critical STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) thinking.  Five interactive activities rotate among CRRL branches throughout the summer.  Children are learning while they have fun!
