Hold Me Closer, Necromancer Book of the Month

Hold Me Closer Necromancer  by Lish McBride

Sam Lacroix has some serious issues. He's a young college dropout, a burger flipper, and a neighbor to an elderly lady with more of a night life than he's ever had. Sam's only bright spot is playing potato hockey in the fast food parking lot. When a renegade tater obliterates a car's tail light, everything takes a turn for the weird.

The car belongs to Douglas, dark and chilling, who senses forces beyond Sam's ordinary powers of sarcasm and apathy. The most prominent of those powers is raising the dead. Douglas doesn't like competition. He too is a necromancer. Sam's must learn his abilities quickly, or else someone else will have to reanimate his corpse for him.

Made up of equal parts horror and humor, the dialogue buzzes with fast-paced wisecracks and pop cultural references from Sam and his buddies. "Thou shall not covet thy neighbor's spatula," warns his best friend Ramon. Sam has a snappy answer for every situation, even when that situation involves a zombiefied panda bear.

McBride's debut novel is a refreshing take on the paranormal genre. More fun than a rousing game of "Guess What I Put in the Fryer," Hold Me Closer, Necromancer has got the goods and is worthy of any teen who like their frights to come with laughs.
