Hello : Every so often a client calls to let us know that they've spotted a scorpion in their home following a monthly maintenance service and cannot understand why. Killing Scorpions: Sounds like I probably haven't sufficiently explained how the process of killing these rascals works, so here goes. Short of being squished or eaten scorpions are very difficult to kill instantly with external treatments because they have a hard exoskeleton with a wax-like coating that's extremely difficult to penetrate. The Sonoran Way: We meet this challenge by using products that adhere to their hard outer shell, absorb into the scorpion's body, and then attack its nervous system to ultimately cause death. The products we use are the most effective ones available but it takes approximately 4 -5 days for them to be absorbed into the scorpion's body. Thereafter death typically occurs within 4 -5 days. Unfortunately there's no way to accelerate this 8 - 10 day process and during that time a scorpion can enter the home. Telling Signs: If you see a scorpion in your home try to observe its behavior if possible. If the critter is lethargic the products have attacked the nervous system and its death is close at hand. This is an opportune time to smash the scorpion with the sole of a shoe because it's not going anywhere. However, if the scorpion stands up, curls its tails and scampers off it either escaped the treatment or the products have not had sufficient time to effectively attack its nervous system. In either case please call us immediately with your observations so we can respond accordingly. False Advertising: Don't be fooled by the slew of TV commercials showing a scorpion being sprayed and dying instantly because they are disingenuous and clearly made in bad faith. Believe the "old bug guy" here - if there were a faster way to kill them we would be using that process, guaranteed. Please be assured that in addition to using the most effective products available, we change the product mixtures throughout the year to guard against future generations of scorpions and pests being immune to the products. Africanized Killer Bees: These ornery fellas are back in our area in a big way so be alert. Contrary to news hysteria and rumors, they generally will not randomly attack. Attacks typically occur when they sense that their queen or hive is being threatened. However, if they are sipping water, pollinating, or engaged in other such activities attacks are unlikely. Be prudent and safe by simply avoiding them. No Heroics: If you see a hive on or around your property just leave it alone and call us immediately. There is nothing to gain but serious trouble by messing with an active hive. In the unlikely event of a killer bee attack RUN for the hills asap. Your business is appreciated and will never be taken for granted. Sincerely, |
