Hello :

Happy Veterans Day.

     A Brave Marine
Tyler 11/09 This handsome United States Marine is my 19 year-old son, Tyler.  Thirteen months ago Tyler fulfilled a childhood dream and enlisted in the Corps for a 7-year stint, postponing college in lieu of proudly serving his country. He is currently in Afghanistan manning a 50-caliber machine gun mounted on top of a Humvee patrolling for bad guys, IEDs, protecting his fellow troops, and helping to keep America safe.

Needless to say I am extremely proud of Tyler and aside from worry, I respect him for doing what he loves - serving his country.  By the way, he's with some good company - the Marine Corps celebrated their 234th birthday on November 10, 2009, so a belated happy birthday.

Care Package For Marines: I've learned from Tyler that the simplest items we take for granted here on a daily basis can often be rare treasures to our troops in Afghanistan. I'm preparing several "care" packages for Tyler's unit. If you would like to do the same I'll drop off a box for you to use, pick it up, and pay all shipping costs  to Afghanistan on your behalf.  Believe me, it will be appreciated far more than you can ever imagine.

Some of the items that are in demand in that desolate land are:
  • Warm socks
  • Toiletries
  • Baby wipes
  • Hard candy
  • Beef Jerky
  • Cigars
  • Instant coffee packs
  • Small energy drinks
  • A personal note of gratitude - goes a long way
If you want to participate with me just reply to this email and I'll contact you on the arrangements.

Veterans Day: Originally Veterans Day was called Armistice Day and set as a U.S. legal holiday to honor the end of World War 1 that occurred on November 11, 1918. In 1938 legislation was passed dedicating Armistice Day to the cause of world peace and honored veterans of World War 1. That legislation was amended in 1954 and the word "Armistice" was replaced with "Veterans" in order to thank and honor living American veterans of all wars whether they served during wartime or peacetime. This is in contrast to Memorial Day that is dedicated to service members who died in serving America or as a result of injuries incurred during battle.

Thanks To Our Troops: Hope you don't think this is too sentimental, but I just can't thank the brave women and men in our armed forces enough for their dedication and commitment in keeping our country safe.

No Bugs: Believe it or not - nothing on scorpions this month :).  I think it's appropriate to honor our military without any mention of bugs.

Have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving.

As always, we sincerely appreciate your business and will never take it for granted.

Sincerely,
Bret 6/9
