Hello :

Well, we're almost through another torrid summer and I keep looking forward to that day when the air just feels different - a little cleaner, crisper - you know that wonderful feeling.

We spent a 5 fabulous days in Dana Point CA instead of our usual San Diego trek.  It's a beautiful area and our hotel, Laguna Cliffs Resort & Spa, is located on the elevated tip of a peninsula abutting the Pacific Ocean.  Great panoramic views and the sunsets were really beyond description. Because the resort is elevated well above the ocean there are a couple hundred yards of wooden steps to climb to and from the beach that fit right into my new diet and exercise routines. The best part was that Lexi just had a blast.

Monsoon Season:  It's right around the corner so be sure your trees are well anchored to withstand the winds.  Also, be more alert for increased activity from scorpions and other critters because they sense a change in the atmosphere and become easily agitated. Don't hesitate to call us with any concerns.

Ants: Here's a little trivia - Arizona has some 318 species of ants, which is extremely high for a region in the US. The bug gurus attribute it to having so many difference ecosystems, from desert to alpine and several in between. Aren't we fortunate?

Fire AntsFlying Ants: While most ants are wingless sterile females, the humidity and rains of the Monsoons attract winged males and fertile females that take flight in huge swarms. They mate in the air and the males die soon after their sexual encounter.

These pests prefer the outlying desert, but will occasionally congregate in hordes at the highest point of a home, e.g., a - chimney top, where thousands of them can invade your home through the flue.  If you're concerned simply place a plastic bag over the opening to block access and tape it shut. The good news is that they're not harmful and have a very short life span - so short that treating them will not have an affect because they'll be dead before the treatment can act. They're just a nuisance, but call me if you have any concerns or questions.

Excellent Question About our Seek and Destroy Service: From time to time we're asked why someone needs this service along with our monthly maintenance, and particularly if they have implemented the Kill Zone™.

At first blush it sure does seem to be redundant.  However, the monthly service and Kill Zone™ are applied around the perimeter of your residence where they create and maintain a protective barrier.  Seek and Destroy service goes from the perimeter out so we can kill scorpions before they advance to the barrier.

The service is certainly not needed, but only recommended as another level of protection from scorpions.

That's it for this month.  Enjoy the Memorial Day holidays and most importantly, be safe.

As always, we appreciate your business and will never take it for granted.

Sincerely,

Bret
