The Beautiful People of Peru

What do you like to do when you travel to a foreign land?   I like to observe, interact with and generally get to know what I can about the people.
Having traveled to Peru I had the opportunity to do just that.  People are people, have you found that?  People no matter where you go, no matter who they are, all have some similarities to people everywhere.  There are the outgoing, friendly happy go lucky one, the more reserved perhaps content but not as boisterous about it ones, those who are prepared to make their little world a happy one and those who are looking for the one responsible for their misfortune.
In general though, I found the people I met in Peru to be beautiful shining spirits.
Mercedes "you know Mercedes Benz" she said with such a great smile that I was sure to recognize and remember her name at each encounter as she sold her trinkets on the streets, and seemed to magically know just where to find us wherever we travelled.  "Ahh Ms Barrrbarrra, remember me?"  Of course Mercedes I will never forget you!
Marcielle, our tour guide extraordinaire, with a Bachelor of Archaeology degree and an obvious love of his own culture he shared so much insight into life in Peru both past and present that I could almost feel the Inca Kings passing me on the trails with their entourage.  Stories of the Conquistadors and peasant farmers, of Inca Temples and modern day Shaman gave us such rich insight into a country that seems to recognize that the treasure of their culture's bountiful history is far more precious than the gold and silver they mine.
Marie and her family are devoting their lives to sharing their abundant love with many of the thousands of orphaned and abandoned children in the Sacred Valley area.  I had the honour of staying at Casa de Milagros (house of miracles) for half of my time in Peru and saw firsthand what great work is being done there.  There are miracles happening every day as the (currently 27) children are cared for learn skills of daily living attend school all in a loving/ sharing-the-caring home environment.
One wonderful individual that made my trip so much more carefree was Carlos.  Carlos would call himself a taxi driver.  But if you need to find your way to or home from anywhere in the Sacred Valley Carlos is the man.  Arranging for train tickets, tours, hostel reservations... you name it Carlos made it happen.  The proud father of three boys Carlos is the living example of going the extra mile.
I met Beth at Casa de Milagros or "the house" as we all learned to call it, A sister traveller with whom I had the pleasure of sharing Carlos' travel services to Ollantaytambo.  Lucky for me she was at 'the house' before me and was able to give me an orientation to all of the intricacies of showering with 30 seconds of hot water, where to locate papel higiénico (a very important bit of info) not to mention a friendly English speaker in an overwhelmingly Spanish speaking house.

Do you ever meet people who you instantly feel "Ahh, what an angel"?  Danika was just such an angel on the tour part of my trip.  There are those people who just seem to say the right things at the right times.  They move throughout the day with halo and wings concealed although all those around are certain of their existence.
Our tour group was wonderful, from young to young-at-heart; we mingled and cajoled, shared long bus rides on long winding roads and once in a lifetime experiences and will forever be a grander version of ourselves for having spent this time together.
I can't really end without one last tribute.  To the Spirit of Machu Picchu.  If ever you have the opportunity to visit this living being of a Wonder of the World, I urge you, don't pass it by.  To stand where tens of thousands toiled to bring this city to life is like nothing I have experienced before.  I could close my eyes and hear the sounds of the stonecutters and the labourers and the hustle of such an organized infrastructure taking shape.  Land was farmed, children were schooled, pilgrims brought offerings and it was all there, laid out before me in this lush green alter of the gods.
All in all, having a chance to meet so many wonderful people will be the true blessing of travelling to Peru, just as the people we meet every day, wherever we are is what makes life such an enriching experience.
Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living. [Robert Frost]

The more we practice, within the safe and supportive container of a workshop, and with active facilitation and coaching, the quicker we are able to change our habits.  The importance of relationships will be one of the areas of focus in our upcoming group coaching program Women of Wonder.  Watch for details to come in the next month in Peaceful Ponderings.

Abundant Blessings:  In this spot each newsletter I will feature a website I feel is worth checking out.  They will be sites where you can share your abundant blessings.  As we share our gifts with the world, our lives are enriched.  This week you might want to check out
