Greetings!

Mother's Day... and Graduation...honoring those who have made it, and those who have made those who have made it. These are certainly worthwhile reasons to pause and celebrate not one, but two of life's achievements! Maybe someone you know will soon be graduating. Instead of writing a check or trying to find something they need but don't already have, treat him or her and their family to a celebration dinner.

And what could be better for Mom then the chance to spend time with you over a relaxing brunch. Have you ever stopped to think just how many meals you actually owe her?

Whatever events you have coming up in your life, decide to celebrate them! Any excuse to entertain will do!
A Casual but Elegant Mother's Day Brunch

Newlyweds in Loving Pose

I think all brides love to entertain their parents. It's a chance to try out new recipes and experiment on someone who loves them without condition. Mother's Day is a perfect time to have both moms over - maybe for brunch? Buy some fresh flowers at the grocery store and arrange them in the center of the table. Use your pretty new china. And try these tasty courses for a fabulous time. Your moms will love seeing the joy you put into to entertaining them!

Baked Blueberry French Toast

For the main event try this scrumptious French Toast dish. You'll need the following ingredients:

Italian bread - 8 to 9 thick slices(1 to 1 1/2 inches)
Eggs - 6, large
Sugar - 1/2 cup, granulated
Cinnamon - 1 tsp, ground; 1/2 tsp extra (not ground)
Vanilla - 1 tsp
Blueberries - 1/2 to 3/4 cup, dried
Milk - 3 cups
Brown sugar - 1/4 cup
Butter - 4 tsp
Melted maple syrup

Grease lightly a baking dish (Size: 9x13 inch) and arrange bread slices in it. Sprinkle dried blueberries over the slices.

Combine eggs, sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, vanilla, and milk in a large bowl. Whisk to blend well..

Pour the egg mixture uniformly over bread. Cover and refrigerate all night. Heat oven to 325 degrees F.

Uncover the baking dish. Dust each slice of bread with a few teaspoons of brown sugar and extra 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Drizzle with the melted butter. Bake without cover for 50 - 55 mins, or until browned and set.

Using a sharp knife, cut around each slice of bread. Lift out with a spatula then. Serve with maple syrup and orange wedges (or fresh berries). Voila! Beautiful and Delicious! You can also serve with warm spiced mixed fruit depending on the weather or your taste. Yields 6 to 8 servings

ORANGE JULIUS

There is probably no simpler way to dress up a brunch (except maybe champagne!) than Orange Julius.  This recipe is simple, quick and adds just the right touch of "fancy".

1 - 6 oz. can frozen orange juice
1 cup milk
1 cup water
1/4 cup sugar (or less to taste)
1 tsp. vanilla
5 - 6 ice cubes

Place all ingredients in blender. Blend about 30 seconds.

Serve your french toast with bacon and plenty of good coffee, then relax and enjoy the compliments from your Mom(s)!

P.S. If you really want to go all out, top it off with a personalized gift or special Mother's Day creation from CafePress

Graduation & an American Tradition...

Best BBQ Equipment on the Planet!Barbecues are arguably a popular way to celebrate graduations from coast to coast. The word barbecue IS America and vice versa, but it actually thought to have originated in the southern United States and owes much of its popularity to the varieties that have evolved across the region. Its origin dates back to the times of the Civil War and even before, making the history of the American barbecue almost the history of America itself.

Today there is no single taste prevalent across the region. The flavors, ingredients used, and sometimes even the method of cooking varies from state to state and even town to town. It may be convenient to break the region up into the South, the East Coast and Central South for a brief comparison as follows:

In the deep South, the meat is not at all what the original barbecue used to be made from, as they frequently use mutton and beef slow cooked. They have a wide range of BBQ sauces that can vary between a sweet tomato sauce or a fiery red-hot one and anything in between.

The East Coast however holds to its original style using pork and vinegar sauces to accompany it. The side dishes that are common favorites along the coast include coleslaw or "slaw" and hushpuppies - a deep-fried cornmeal pastry. The vinegar sauces do see variations such as vinegar sauces rich in tomato, or yellow mustard based sauces, with side dishes like bread and stew or hash with rice.

In the Central South, the meat remains primarily pork and its ribs, but the way it is cut differs, as it is more often pulled rather than chopped. The meat is slow cooked, shredded by hand and covered with ample amounts of sauce. The ribs are greased with sauce or covered with a mix of spices before pit cooking. The sauces here are typically a sweet tomato based sauce with a hint of pepper and molasses. It is usually served with coleslaw, French fries, baked beans and cornbread. Further, to the west beef gets more favor to pork.

The authentic origins of the true American barbecue is buried in tales that have evolved over time, and today you will find a wider variety to enjoy than ever, so break out the grill and get ready for some of the American Favorite - The BBQ!
