 SNOW FALLS AT CITY HALL
annapolisOn March 10, 2008, President of the City Council Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and the entire city council were presented with an avalanche of unique and beautiful snowflakes made by young people in after school programs throughout the city. Youth and after school providers from ETU and the Druid Hill YMCA Black Achievers program were on hand to make sure that the council people received their snowflakes and that each member also received a plaque with the following message: "Like snowflakes, young people are singularly beautiful, requiring ideal conditions for healthy growth and development... On behalf of the young people of Baltimore, thank you for your leadership and investment. Expand after school and let it snow!"
SPRING BLOOMS: TAX PAYERS NIGHT
How will our children grow in Baltimore's garden?
THURSDAY APRIL 3, 6 PM, War Memorial Building

Baltimore's children, youth and families are the seeds of our regeneration. In order to grow and thrive, our seeds need opportunities available to them in their communities. Join us on Thursday to ensure funding is available to nurture children and families!

This year the Mayor has included $13 million in the FY '09 base operating budget out of the $17.5 million needed to keep all opportunities (including After School Programs) in place. And we need to grow more - $3 million for Peer-to-Peer, $1 million for additional after school programs and $1 million for children entering school ready to learn.

Now is our time. Please come and testify to make sure After School stays in the budget and GROWS. Please join the Safe and Sound Campaign and others for this important event. Questions? E-mail emitchell@safeandsound.org.

Programs in the Strategy adhere to youth development standards and are supported by the Safe and Sound Campaign, The After School Institute and the Family League of Baltimore City.

chick Oh, give us the pleasure in the flowers today;

  And give us not to think so far away

  As the uncertain harvest; keep us here

  All simply in the springing of the year.
