Health Reform Survives Supreme Court

By now you've heard that the Supreme Court has ruled health care reform (PPACA) is constitutional. The nation's highest court preserved the "individual mandate" - all Americans either obtain insurance or pay a tax.

Most of our clients are rightfully concerned as to what this means to them.

  • What are my obligations as an employer?
  • Do we buy insurance for our employees or go through an exchange?
  • What type of exchange - public or private?
  • What's an exchange?
  • Do we qualify for any subsidies?  Which ones?
  • If we don't offer insurance now do we need to start?

We understand that our clients (large and small groups and individuals) are looking to us for strategies and solutions to help them make informed decisions.

The legislation as it stands will almost certainly change from what it is now.  PPACA is not perfect but neither is the status quo.

PPACA now goes from being a legal issue to a political one.  If elected, Gov. Romney promises to repeal the law on his first day.  If re-elected, President Obama probably won't.

Our agency has seen countless changes in the benefits arena from the passage of COBRA in 1986 to ARRA in 2009 and we have met every challenge.  We are continuing with our health reform compliance work.  We are investing in resources and remain committed to bringing all of you the most value for your benefit dollars.

In the near future we will send out more communications regarding this law.  As always, please contact us with any questions or concerns.
