The Pre-Auction Wall
If you are like many of our customers who would be interested in acquiring a previously-owned piece of art but can’t go to an auction, or are even intimidated by the auction process, come visit our Pre-Auction Wall. We now feature a gallery wall dedicated to exhibiting works of art previously owned by our local Fairfield County clientele, many of whom have had the pieces in their families for generations. This new service gives our customers the opportunity to silently bid on a piece of art that they are interested in acquiring.

At the same time, the previous owner is afforded a service that makes the process of selling their artwork financially beneficial and convenient.

We are proud to be working with Shannon’s Fine Art Auctioneers of Connecticut, who grossed over 7.6 million dollars in sales in 2011. We currently have dozens of pieces of auction items, and the display is rotated regularly on the Pre-Auction Wall, so there is always new artwork to bid on. Art enthusiasts, collectors and those interested in viewing items available for bidding are encouraged to visit Geary Gallery.

Hans Fischer

Burning Off by Hans Fischer"Great Escapes — Paintings of the City, Land and Sea."

"… Capturing the shimmer of light on water, the patterns of light as you turn a corner on a crisp sunny morning. One side of the street so bright you squint while the shadows are so deep you can't see into them. Just color and shape, light and dark." So describes Hans Fischer about his approach to painting.

Fischer is known for exploring the blending of contemporary representational imagery with the abstract. His goal is to visually merge the best qualities of both styles by utilizing a mix of media, texture, color, and strong composition — to capture the sense of a place through its light and color, rather than just "rendering" a specific location. He uses powerful brushwork, strong contrasts and bold color relationships to create complex organic textures.

Fischer works with encaustic, oil and acrylics, often combining them to achieve unique, vibrant and translucent surfaces with strong graphic qualities that engage viewers. Fischer likes to visually stimulate a person's curiosity … to get close, touch and feel the surfaces, connect with the work in an almost physical way, as well as a visually satisfying one.

Born in Holland and raised in Harrison NY, Fischer has lived in Ridgefield, CT for many years and maintains his studio there. After college his early years as a "starving artist" were interrupted by the U.S. Army and "the sixties." His painting career was further put on hold by corporate America, and a career in graphic design and art direction. In 1989, Fischer established his own graphic design company. But the love of art has always pulled hard and he has been able to concentrate, full time, on painting for most of the last decade. He truly enjoys the experience and process of creating art and his emotion is reflected in his work.

Hans Fischer studied art at Akademie voor Kunst, Eindhoven, Holland and received his B.S. in Industrial Design at the University of Bridgeport. He has furthered his studies at Silvermine Guild of Artists in New Canaan, CT.

His work is shown in galleries and is in private collections in the U.S. and abroad. He has received numerous juried awards including the New York Art Directors Award, Communication Arts Annual Award, Fairfield County Art Directors Show, the CADC "The One" Show Award, and the American Art and Print Institute Award.

"Celebrate New England"

A Day for SailingFor more than twenty years, Judith Carbine has captured the grandeur of the New England landscape. The Vermont native will be returning to Geary Gallery to unveil a new series of engaging Plein Air oil paintings that celebrate the majesty of nature. The month-long solo exhibit will showcase many of her trademark subjects including Long Island sand dunes, Vermont snow scenes, inspirational gardens of Connecticut, and dramatic seascapes of the Eastern Seaboard.

“Painting outdoors is an exciting and refreshing visual adventure. The challenge is to capture the splendor of nature with every painting,” said Ms. Carbine, who varies her palette with each location. “New England has some of the most magnificent landscapes in the country, and it’s an endless source of inspiration for me.”

A self taught artist, Judith Carbine was greatly influenced by French and American impressionism, and her artwork has been profiled in American Artist Magazine, and has been published in the books The Zen of Creative Painting and Strengthen Your Paintings with Dynamic Composition. in addition to the Geary Gallery, Ms. Carbine frequently exhibits in her native Vermont and numerous northern New England and New York State galleries. She continues to receive regional recognition and has received Best in Show awards from both the Chester (VT) Art Guild and the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council.

“Judith is one of the area’s most celebrated artists and many of her previous exhibits have completely sold out,” said Tom Geary, owner of the gallery. “She continues to receive wide-spread acclaim for beautifully blended colors and a notable talent for capturing the nuances of New England. This exhibit is a collection of Judith’s finest works to date, and we’re happy to be bringing it to our Fairfield County community.”
