More than 2,000 Corner Samples
The Geary Gallery houses Accent Picture Framing and Restoration, and we've just completed our 70,000th custom frame! If you own an oil painting that needs to be cleaned, framed, or repaired we provide custom framing with an extensive selection of over 2,000 corner samples for any type of artwork. Our precision restoration service restores oil paintings and frames, and many of its restored objects hang in museums, galleries, and historical societies.

The Pre-Auction Wall
If you are like many of our customers who would be interested in acquiring a previously-owned piece of art but can’t go to an auction, or are even intimidated by the auction process, come visit our Pre-Auction Wall. We now feature a gallery wall dedicated to exhibiting works of art previously owned by its local Fairfield County clientele, many of whom have had the pieces in their families for generations. This new service gives our customers the opportunity to silently bid on a piece of art that they’re interested in acquiring.

At the same time, the previous owner is afforded a service that makes the process of selling their artwork financially beneficial and convenient. We first appraise it for its fair market value and determine the minimum starting bid.

We are proud to be working with Shannon’s Fine Art Auctioneers of Connecticut, who grossed over 7.6 million dollars in sales in 2011. We currently have dozens of pieces of auction items, and the display is rotated regularly on the Pre-Auction Wall, so there is always new artwork to bid on. Art enthusiasts, collectors and those interested in viewing items available for bidding are encouraged to visit Geary Gallery.

Custom Original Portrait Service
Portraits at Geary Gallery
This Valentine’s Day consider a truly unique gift for your loved one. Geary Gallery’s Custom Original Portrait Service makes it easy and affordable to commission a portrait either of a family, an individual, a pet or home. The service was created by special arrangement with a select group of artists who, depending on their proximity and individual technique, can paint their subject either from a live sitting or a series of photographs.

Individual portraits are available in oil, pastel or graphite. Houses in pen & ink or acrylic, and pet portraits are available in oil. The artists were chosen due to their mastery of their particular subject and medium, and their portfolios are available to view at our portraits gallery.

Let Your Art Come to You
To help parents with babies and small children who are unable to easily leave their car, Geary recently announced Curbside Pick-up, which allows customers to call from their car when they’re in the gallery parking lot to pick up their work, and a gallery employee will bring it to them. Call (203) 655-6633.

Featured Artist, February 2012
Barbara Lussier

Shades of Gold, by Barbara LussierCome enjoy the beautiful winterscapes of naturalist painter, Barbara Lussier. "The Splendor of Winter" will showcase her stunning works from February 1 through February 29, 2012. Ms. Lussier is known for her exploration of the romance of light and color with her paintings, which are often described as poetry. Her imagery of farmland, mountains, rocky shores and sandy beaches on display this month evoke the glistening beauty of winter in New England.

Ms. Lussier is a philosophically direct descendant of the Old Lyme and the American Hudson River School painters, and approaches her subject in a way that embraces these traditions — honoring nature and working from direct observation. The daughter of a consummate fisherman and boater, Barbara fell in love with the sea while roaming the coastline of Nahant, Massachusetts as a child. She followed her father to the warmer waters of Florida, where he fished and boated and she painted boating subjects while attending the Ringling School of Art. Later, she explored the south Pacific coastline, where she was sometimes dropped by helicopter on uninhabited islands to paint pink rocks and turquoise waters. At the hand of her mother, she learned the wildflowers and trees of New England, feeding her fervor for their majesty and esthetics. Currently, she lives in New England and supplies galleries with imagery of farmland, mountains, rocky shores and sandy beaches. A collector even traded his boat for her painting so that she might further explore the creeks, rivers and coastline that are her favorite painting subjects.

Barbara Lussier holds a B.F.A. degree from the University of Hartford. She has also studied at Ringling School of Art, Hartford College for Women, and the Lyme Academy. Her work has been exhibited throughout New England and internationally. She is represented in a number of corporate and private collections and has won numerous awards, including the Painting Award from the Connecticut Academy of Fine Art, the Award for Excellence in Painting from the Rockport Art Association 2006, 2007 and the Painting Award from the Academic Artist Association 2007.

To read more about Barbara Lussier, visit her biography on the Geary Gallery site, and view works in our online gallery.

Admission is to the Gallery free, and the paintings are available for acquisition. The Geary Gallery is regularly open to the public Wednesdays – Saturdays, 9:30 am – 5:00 pm.
