Welcome to the June issue of the Geary Gallery Guide.

This month, we invite you to welcome summer with the breathtaking seascapes and shoreline paintings of Shelton, Connecticut resident, Jill Nichols. Jill has had a love of sailing and the sea since she was a child, and she brings her exuberance to her works. We hope to see you at the gallery in June!

Also, we want to remind you that on Saturday, June 11, 2011, you’re cordially invited to join us at our Third Annual "Click it for Cassie" Softball Tournament. We’re hoping to exceed last year’s record attendance at this annual event that benefits the cause we founded in memory of our daughter, Cassie. Proceeds and donations will help us spread the word of the importance of wearing seatbelts, especially to teen-age drivers, and the lives they can save. Herb’s Local Vending Truck will be back again providing breakfast, lunch and an assortment of food throughout the day — plus enjoy a variety of baked goods made by several of Cassie’s friends. For more information about the event, please contact Tom Geary at 203-515-1058 or to make a donation to the foundation in Cassie’s name, visit www.clickitforcassie.com.

We hope to see you there!
Sincerely,

Anne & Tom Geary

Beach Time by Jill NicholsThis month the Geary Gallery is proud to showcase Shelton resident, Jill Harrison Nichol’s idealistic paintings of the sea and shore with the exhibit, "A Painter’s Love of the Sea & Shore." Struck with the love of sailing at the age of five, her avid love of the sea and sailing have been the driving motivation of her artwork all of her life.

On her 16th birthday, on a cold February day along the coast of Cape Cod, Ms. Nichols was compelled to paint a shore scene from the front seat of the family wagon. What followed was a lifelong love of painting seascapes and shorelines. However it wasn’t until the year 2000, after many years of working in commercial art and raising three sons, Jill began painting in earnest. Her fine art training includes the Art Student League in New York City, Silvermine Guild, Old Lyme Academy and Gallery 53 in Connecticut. She has been privileged to study under many noted artists that have helped form a firm foundation for her paintings.

In describing her artwork, Ms. Nichols said, "My painting is poetry; a lyrical composition of color and light. When I am painting I am in the moment, thoroughly present and enraptured. I experience a sense of peace, as well as an urgency to capture and share the moment. It is a privilege to paint, to completely take in a scene and share it with the viewer."
