Welcome to the February issue of the Geary Gallery Guide. We feel that this snowy winter could use a breath of warm, fresh sea air, so this month we're pleased to present "Coastal-Scapes of New England." This month's exhibit features the magnificent marine oil paintings by two renowned East Coast painters, Dahl Taylor and Michael Lowenbein. Although they are both known for the diverse subject matter of their paintings, the Geary Gallery has an extensive collection of these two artists’ seascapes and marine paintings. The exhibit opens February 2nd and runs through February 26th 2011.
We hope to see you this month!
Sincerely,
Anne & Tom Geary

Dahl Taylor
An experienced marine painter, Dahl Taylor has participated in the Mystic Seaport Maritime Gallery’s International Shows for 15 years in a row. He received the Thomas M. Hoyne, III Award for his painting of Stonington, Maine in 2000. Dahl was part of a two- man show at the Albany Institute of History and Art, which documented the construction of a replica of the schooner "America." Several of these paintings were featured in the British magazine "Classic Boat."
His career has spanned more than 25 years. In that time he has created paintings on projects ranging from Broadway posters for a Neil Simon play and the Tony-nominated "Having Our Say," to paintings for limited edition prints for the U.S. Navy Memorial and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, both in Washington, D.C. and he has a 36’ mural installed in the library of a state university. His marine, equestrian and landscape paintings have been shown at numerous galleries including a one-man show at the Society of Illustrators and are also included in many public and private collections. For a preview of his paintings, visit the Geary Gallery online.

Michael Lowenbein
Working primarily with oils, Michael Lowenbein’s subjects were usually people, adults, children, and their pets, however he was also adept in capturing the mood and character of the sea and land with his splendid seascapes. Mr. Lowenbein was born in New York and began painting at the age of 10 by copying the work of Old Masters. After graduating from the High School of Music and Art and earning a BA in Fine Arts at Pratt Institute, the army sent Michael to Paris where the people and scenes of the city provided inspiration for the subject matter of his paintings. He combined painting with a career in commercial art, and his illustrations have appeared on the covers of Reader’s Digest and other magazines. Later in his career he concentrated on his painting, accepting commissions and exhibiting in galleries and shows. View his online gallery.
