Happy New Year!

Welcome to the January issue of the Geary Gallery Guide. We hope your holidays were wonderful. Now that we’re in the cold, dark days of winter, the gallery is happy to announce the “Warmth in Winter” exhibit featuring the inviting works of light and color of two prominent East Coast painters, Robert Waltsak and Edith McClean. Both known for their modern impressionistic works using broad brushstrokes to bring sunlight and color to their canvases, this month’s gallery exhibit is a perfect break from the cold, wind and snow of January. The exhibit opens January 3rd and runs through January 29th.

We hope to see you this month!
Sincerely,

Anne & Tom Geary

Robert Waltsak

Summer Shadows by Robert WaltsakRobert Waltsak’s plein-air impressionist oil paintings of landscapes and still life have been exhibited at the HBO Corporate Gallery in New York, Lambertville Gallery of Fine Arts, and The Hastings on Hudson Museum. Robert says his palette was influenced by Frank Vincent Dumond of the Hudson River School and is a companion painter with Robert Grouppe and John P. Osborne.

A resident of New Jersey, Robert has been painting all of his life and attended the School of Visual Arts in New York, Newark School of Fine Arts, and the Ridgewood Art Institute in New Jersey. He was also an award winner at the Ridgewood Institute Juried Show in 2002. Robert is also a fine and accomplished woodworker who designed the set with furniture and art for the Broadway play, “Fortunes Fool.” For a preview of his paintings, visit the Geary Gallery online.

Edith McClean

Daisies by Edith McCleanLocal Rowayton resident, Edith McClean has exhibited her works throughout Fairfield County, from the Stamford Art Association to her solo exhibit at the Darien Library. Additional exhibits at the University of Alabama, the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, George Washington University and in Bury St. Edmunds, England has brought her works to art-lovers nationally and internationally.

Working in acrylic, Edith’s paintings are her impressions of everyday objects and scenes done in a Matisse-like fashion. Edith explains, "To me painting is like doing a puzzle, you keep putting shapes and colors together until the picture emerges. I think too much is made of the meaning behind the painting; maybe the artist painted a still life of fruit because he was hungry?!" View her gallery collection here.

Art lovers throughout Southeastern Connecticut are invited to visit Geary Gallery to explore the wealth of works by these artists, some of which has never before been shown. Admission to the public is free, and artwork is available for acquisition. The Geary Gallery is regularly open to the public Wednesdays — Saturdays, 9:30 am - 5:00 pm. It is located at 576 Boston Post Road, Darien, CT 06820. For more information, contact (203) 655-6633 or visit www.gearygallery.com.
