Changes for this Fall's CicLAvia Including a New Date and Expansion to South LA, Boyle Heights, & ChinatownCicLAvia
Join LACBC
CicLAvia is coming--even sooner than you expected! This weekend, LA Streetsblog announced several changes for the upcoming CicLAvia, including the new date of Sunday, October 7 (previously, CicLAvia had been set for October 14, where the streets will now fill up with a space shuttle instead).

Other changes include a modified route with expansion to South LA, Chinatown, and Boyle Heights, and no spur to the bicycle district. CicLAvia will now reach the new Expo Line (via Figueroa) and reach several Gold Line stops in Boyle Heights in addition to its Red Line stops, making the next CicLAvia very accessible by light rail.

So mark your calendars, and bust out your bike, scooter, stroller, roller skates, pogo sticks, or walking/running/dancing shoes. Get ready for LA's biggest block party!

CicLAvia
When: Sunday, October 7; 10 AM to 3 PM
Where: Downtown LA, South LA, MacArthur Park, Chinatown, Little Tokyo, Boyle Heights

Over the last year, since the adoption of the City of Los Angeles Bicycle Plan, the City has shown a real commitment to improving conditions for bicycling. This past fiscal year has been the best yet for bicycle infrastructure implementation and planning: the city exceeded its goal of installing 40 miles of bike lanes by installing 51 miles of bike lanes and also installed 20 miles of sharrows; a bike network has been growing in Downtown LA; a record number of bike rack requests have been fulfilled; and the City's first physically separated bike lane  was announced.

Looking into what's ahead for the next year, the City has just released its prepared first-year implementation strategy Environmental Impact Review (EIR) proposal for 43 miles of bike lanes. There are several upcoming scoping meetings to provide an opportunity for you to learn more about the EIR process and give input on the included projects. Below is the meeting information as well as information for a webinar that will cover the same information.

When: Thursday, July 12; 6 PM to 8 PM

Where: LADOT Western Parking Enforcement Office - 11214 W. Exposition Blvd., 1st Floor, Los Angeles, 90064

When: Wednesday, July 18; 6 PM to 8 PM

As the City continues to move ahead with implementing the adopted 2010 Bicycle Plan, it is critical to show support for the City's vision. Sign-up to get involved with our new Neighborhood Bike Ambassador Program and help advocate for the many projects included in the EIR and more.

What's Ringing Our Bike Bells: Make Your Road Trip a Bikey One
What is Bicycle Travel?
What is Bicycle Travel?

Hooray for summer and summer vacations! We've noticed an uptick in our friends' summer road trips being of the biking variety. Bike touring seems more common these days and a more intimate way to get to know an area.

Our own Programs Coordinator Bobby Gadda is biking down to LA from Vancouver on his tall bike this summer. You can follow all this progress on his Facebook fan page at facebook.com/tallbikebobby.

Need a more local bike trip this summer? Our own Executive Director Jennifer Klausner was on KCRW last week talking about the Fruit Loop, a ride through PCH and the Santa Monica Mountains for experienced riders.

Lastly, we leave you with some inspiration from the Path Less Pedaled's Russ and Laura Roca. In 2009, these two decided to just keep on pedaling and have been doing so all around the world. Check out this video on "What Is Bicycle Travel?" and find a quick cameo from an LACBC sticker and Cynthia and Bryan from local LACBC chapter Santa Monica Spoke at the 0:37 mark! (Thanks to Marc Caswell of SFBC for spotting our LACBC sticker.)
