CicLAvia: Bringing Smiles to the Streets on Sunday
When: Sunday, October 9; 10 AM - 3 PM
Where: East Hollywood, MacArthur Park, Downtown LA, Fashion District, El Pueblo de Los Angeles, Boyle Heights
It's the most wonderful time of the year, where LA's streets transform into a playground for all to bike, walk, run, skate, explore, play, etc.! Enjoy an expanded route for the 3rd CicLAvia! LACBC is proud to once again partner with this LA's biggest block party. Check out more information on the CicLAvia website.
Volunteer with LACBC and/or CicLAvia
LACBC will need your help to get the word out about LACBC and help run our bike valets in Little Tokyo and Olvera Street during the event. Shifts are from 10 AM to 12:30 PM and 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM. If you're interested in volunteering with us, please contact Martin Lopez-Iu at [email protected] or sign up online!
CicLAvia organizers also need all sorts of volunteers to make the event happen. If you'd like to volunteer with them as a Route Angel and help make bike repairs, sign up through the CicLAvia website.

Ride with Fellow Bicyclists: Join a Feeder Ride with a Regional Group!
LA County is vast one, and people will be coming from all over to experience CicLAvia! Meet up with people in your area and learn more about each group's local bike efforts. You can find other feeder rides here as well.
Alhambra: Eastside Bike Club (ESBC) and West San Gabriel Valley Bicycle Coalition (WSGVBC) will meet at Walgreen's Pharmacy located on 2551 West Main Street, Alahambra 91801 (Main Street and Fremont Ave.) at 8:30 AM and riding out at 9 AM. More info.
East Los Angeles: The Montebello Bicycle Coalition will meet at the Metro Gold Line Atlantic Station at 11:30 AM. More info.
Pasadena: West San Gabriel Valley Bicycle Coalition (WSGVBC) will also meet at the entrance of the South Pasadena Library (1100 Oxley Street) at 9 AM. All abilities welcome. More info.
Santa Monica: Santa Monica Spoke Ride will meet at the top of Santa Monica Pier at 8:00 AM and leave at 8:30 AM. Ride is 13.6 miles, mostly flat on streets with bike lanes or low traffic volume at our time of travel. Russ & Laura from PathLessPedaled will be the special guests on the ride. More info.
Westwood: The UCLA Bicycle Coalition will meet at 9 AM from Bruin Plaza. The ride is about 14 miles and they'll be taking it at a leisurely pace.

New Belgium's Tour de Fat: Dress Up, Volunteer, Support Local Bike Orgs on Saturday
When: Saturday, October 8; 10:30 AM
Where: Los Angeles State Historic Park - 1245 N Spring St, Los Angeles
New Belgium's Tour de Fat is back in LA to benefit some of your favorite local bike orgs: LACBC, C.I.C.L.E., and the Bicycle Kitchen. Join us for a celebration of bikes, fun costumes, a parade, performances, beer, and more! More info.
Volunteer!
LACBC will once again be leading the parade at 11 AM, as well as providing bike valet. We'll need ride marshals, people at our booth, bike valets, and many more volunteers. If you're interested in volunteering with LACBC, contact Martin Lopez-Iu at [email protected] or sign up online. Volunteers get free beer tokens, plus a commemorative LA bike license plate from New Belgium.
Ride with Your Fellow Cyclists - Join a Feeder Ride to TdF
East Los Angeles: The Montebello Bicycle Coalition will meet at the Metro Gold Line Atlantic Station (5150 E Pomona Blvd., East LA, 90022) at 9 AM. For advanced riders and people who want an early workout, one group will ride all the way to the event. For those who are not as experienced, another group will take the Gold Line to the event. Santa Monica: Santa Monica Spoke will meet at the top of Santa Monica Pier at 7:30 AM and ride at 8 AM sharp. This relaxed-paced 19-mile ride will be mostly flat on streets with bike lanes or low traffic volume at our time of travel. Russ & Laura from PathLessPedaled will be our special guests on the ride! West Hollywood: The West Hollywood Bicycle Coalition will meet up at Poinsettia Park (by the dog park on the Willoughby side - between Poinsettia and Martel) at 9 AM and ride at 9:30 AM sharp. Ride is roughly 10 miles, mostly flat, with some moderate hills. More info.

Ralphs Community Contribution Program: Buy Groceries, Support Local Bike Advocacy
Supporting local bike advocacy just got easier! Through the Ralphs Community Contribution Program, each time you use your Ralphs Rewards Card, a portion of your total purchase will be donated to LACBC, at no extra cost to you!
Since LACBC began its partnership with Ralphs many years ago, supporters have contributed thousands of dollars simply by buying groceries!
Registering is quick, easy, and free:
- Visit the Ralphs Community Contribution Program Page
- Click on "Enroll" at the bottom and fill out your online form. You will need your card number.
- Sign in or register (you'll need an email address and a password to do so)
- Search for the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition by name or NPO number (83993) and save your selection
Note: Even if you have already participated in the program, you'll need to renew for the current term (September 1, 2011 - August 31, 2012) in order for LACBC to receive the benefits of this program. We apologize for the inconvenience.
If you don't have a Ralphs Rewards Card, you can sign up online or get one at the customer service desk of any Ralphs.

South Bay Bicycle Plan Passes in El Segundo, Heads to 6 More City Councils
T he South Bay Bicycle Master Plan has passed in El Segundo and will be continuing making its way through the other 6 city councils of the South Bay in the next two months. A complete list of the council dates can be found on SBBC's website.
Please demonstrate your support of the plan by joining us and voicing your support. Be sure to wear your SBBC t-shirt!

Count Bikes to Make Bikes Count in Long Beach
Here's your chance to help make Long Beach a more bike-friendly city. Volunteer for Long Beach's Fourth Annual Bicycle Count on:
- Thursday, October 20 from 7 AM - 9 AM and/or 4 PM - 6 PM
- Sunday, October 23 from 12 PM - 2 PM
The Counts help the City acquire a better understanding of locations of bike and pedestrian activity, and which areas and infrastructure are used the most. Ultimately, the Counts will help inform where bike and pedestrian improvements need to be made.
The City of Long Beach and Cal State Long Beach are seeking volunteers to help conduct bike and pedestrian counts at more than 35 locations throughout Long Beach. There are multiple volunteer time slots and count locations. High school students are welcome to participate with parent permission.

Alhambra Bike Plan Town Hall Meeting
When: Saturday, October 22; 11 AM
Where: Almansor Park Gym (8000 S. Almansor St., Alhambra) Past-Mayor Alhambra City Councilman Gary Yamauchi will hold a "Town Hall" to discuss the bike plan. If you are a cyclist who lives or works within the city, rides through the city, or is just a supporter of better cycling opportunities, please attend this meeting to voice your opinion and experience on the matter. If you are not able to make the meeting, you may reach Councilman Yamauchi before the meeting via email at [email protected] or call him via his cell phone at (626) 524-4516.
2nd Annual City of Lights Awards Dinner
When: Wednesday, October 26; 6 PM - 11 PM
Come support the award-winning City of Lights program that works to empower low-income cyclists! The 2nd Annual City of Lights Fundraiser will feature honorees Mayor Villaraigosa, Hector Tobar, and Laura Torres; delicious dinner; a silent auction; music; good times; good people; and more! Purchase your ticket today and/or sponsor a day laborer (especially if you can't make the actual dinner). LACBC members save $20 on tickets. More info.

California Bike Summit 2011
When: Saturday, November 5 through Sunday, November 7
Where: Kyoto Grand Hotel (Sat. & Sun.) and California Endowment for Health Conference Center (Mon.)
The California Bike Summit, hosted by the California Bicycle Coalition, brings together professional and volunteer bike advocates, club leaders, ride organizers and key allies to set the statewide bicycling agenda for 2012 and beyond. We will also strengthen our capacity as advocates for bicycling by sharing best practices, successes, failures and lessons learned. And, with fun bike rides and energizing parties and plenty of structured networking, we'll get to connect with the largest contingent of bicycle advocates in the country!
