Yellow Minus Blue by Kira Vollman

2008 is starting to heat up for the AMP Community! In Los Angeles, monthly meetings begin in a week (and in Amsterdam, in 6 weeks), the website has transformed its look and added some great new features (with more to come), a gallery show is in the works, projects and collaborations are flourishing - and there's something new for the musicians on AMP.

Our first AMP community building and planning meeting will be next Saturday, February 16, at 2-4 (or so) pm, at

Sompun Thai Restaurant
(323) 669-9906
4156 Santa Monica Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90029

Please send an email to pluginamp@gmail.com if you plan to come. If the numbers expand by much, we'll have to find a new location, so please do let us know if you're coming. Sompun is the best Thai restaurant I know, run by a great family; it's a Silver Lake institution, and even if you don't come to this meeting (or we need to move because things get too big), drop by the restaurant if you're in the Los Angeles area.

The first Amsterdam community building and planning meeting will be held at a brunch in Amsterdam on Sunday, March 30. Details will be announced in the next newsletter.

Since our last newsletter, there have been some big changes with the AMP website!

  • Art World News: links to over 40 art and music magazines from all over the world
  • Featured Bloggers: writings from fellow AMPers, from Amsterdam to Tehran
  • Audio Uploads: musicians and sound artist, upload your sounds!

AMPers, artists, art collectors and a curious general audience from all over the world are watching and listening; the website gets thousands of hits every day. Make your voice heard - have a look at what's happening, and then submit some words, images, and sounds of your own.

The Valentine Peace Project is Amsterdam AMPer Federico Hewson's public participation project, and AMP's entry into World Community Arts Day (WCAD happens on 17 February 2008)! Fighting against the commodification of love and reimaging Valentine's Day as a broader statement for love and peace, this is about taking creativity to the streets! Dozens of poems by published poets, the community at large, and schoolchildren on the themes of peace are attached to hundreds of varied flowers to distribute on the subways, streets, and public gathering places. Encouraging school workshops on conflict resolution and the history of peacemakers, the VPP also aims to draw attention to the work done by a myriad of peace and peace education organizations. Participate on February 14th in your own way!

Kim Chandler
Kim Chandler, also known as Lokimee (though she is living a life that is anything but low key), is a writer, editor, radio host, poet, screenwriter, playwright, performance artist, actress, producer and more. Born in the UK and raised in the Caribbean and Canada, she now lives in Amsterdam, while traveling as much as possible!

A 'career path' that led her to try her hand at such adventures as forest fire fighting (You can Yukon!) and having her own theatre company in London, somehow led her to the position of Arts and Entertainment Editor of a national newspaper in Holland, which she made the most out of for almost three years.

Currently Kim is a member of the English Breakfast Radio Show, Editor of Global Vision and Global Vision Africa Magazines, contributing writer to Velocity Magazine, continues to do theatre and poetry performances and voice over work, and is a featured blogger on AMP. She's currently working on a performance piece to be toured nationally this fall - producing it may, quite possibly, make Kim crazy - but at least her freak will be filmed!
