Please join us from 7-10 pm this coming Saturday night, May 19th for a reception for the artists participating in Phantom Galleries' Pasadena project. Have a close-up look at the fantastic and fascinating multi-media work of AMP members Eduardo Bonilla, Carl Burmeister, Phillip Stearns, and Kira Vollman. In keeping with AMP's multi-disciplinary membership, the reception will feature performances by AMP members Jeff Merchant, Gilli Moon and Jeff Walker. To learn more about Jeff, Gilli, and Jeff, just have a look below.

Phantom Galleries LA is a Los Angeles County-based organization that transforms vacant storefront windows into 24/7 public art galleries. Exhibits are curated by local Arts Organizations, Los Angeles-based Galleries, Independent Curators, and Los Angeles-based Artists. The project gives local artists an opportunity to exhibit their work, while fostering economic development by drawing attention to available retail space. The project promotes the creative communities of Los Angeles to a broader audience.

Jeff Merchant doesn't usually write cute, sweet, happy love songs - although some of his tunes are undeniably charming and whimsical. Merchant's songs are carefully crafted and thought-provoking. A purveyor of slickly arranged orchestral indie-pop with jazz and folk undertones, Jeff writes about life's hardships in a catchy, melodic way, where the melodies themselves take off some of the edge. Merchant's "window rolled down" CD is one remarkably smooth listen, carrying the listener effortlessly along from auspicious start to fine finish. Multi-influenced, not trying to sound like anyone else, Jeff Merchant doesn't identify with any particular musical style or genre. He's more interested in well-written, compelling songs that have both a strong melody and a message.

Gilli Moon
An Australian (LA based) female artist who delivers music, art and a brave sense of self-expression in her energetic, sensual and expressive performances and recordings, gilli moon is an illustrious, energetic poly-media artist. Her multifaceted albums and dynamic live shows have touched music lovers worldwide, garnering high praise from the most jaded of critics. gilli's restless creativity and rebellious nature continually urge her to push the envelope in the studio and on stage, with whatever she touches. Combining the voice of a siren with piano purging songs that ooze raw emotion and sensuality, gilli moon is the quintessential renaissance woman. The eternal chameleon in artistry and thought, gilli moon creates music that is fresh, rebellious, passionate and unique. Itunes has been unable to classify her. She stands alone.

Jeff Walker
The creativity and passion that Jeff Walker uses have helped him win numerous poetry slams and talent shows all through Los Angeles. Jeff is living his dream. Working as a self proclaimed Rhymecologist, he helps at risk youth work through their problems by expressing themselves through rap or poetry. He conducts groups and seminars throughout the Los Angeles area. Jeff is a published author of poetry as well, and has led an extraordinary life. He has lived in five different countries, including Indonesia, Singapore, Buenos Aires, Dubai and Paris. Combining his worldly experience with his talent for lyrics and his passion to help people, he created the idea for Rhymecology. He has been working with prison parolees and at risk youth for the last four years. All the while he has been creating and writing, with the ultimate goal to combine his training as a counselor and talent as a lyricist to help and entertain as many people as possible.

This should be a lot of fun, and we might even have some special as-yet-unannounced AMP performers drop in. I can't wait to see you there! Bring a friend and AMPlify your creative connections through AMP and the Phantom Galleries project.

Cheers!
