Dear Friends and AMP Members,
Egg Eye

Finally, happy new year from AMP! Over the last few weeks, I've been getting emails from some of you, as well as running into others at events in the community, asking why you haven't heard from AMP in a while. Well, you haven't been forgotten, and AMP is just as active as ever! A lot has been going on behind the scenes, and I wanted to wait until everything was ready until I sent you another greeting...

Andy's Ender
The big news for the new year is that we now have a completely upgraded website. The upgrade - which was done by new AMP member Vincent (http://www.basicmagic.com) - took about 6 weeks, and I was waiting to be sure things were fully functional before I asked to you come on in and have a look - and it's finally ready! So far, everything's working pretty much like it did before - only more smoothly and quickly, with huge potential for added features, which will gradually be developed over the coming weeks and months. Here are the particular things you need to know right now:

  • If you had bookmarked the AMP website before as http://pluginamp.com/drupal, you need to change that to http://pluginamp.com/network
  • If you had a buddy list before, you'll need to reconstruct it - the buddy technology has upgraded, but was not able to take old lists with it
  • What really was the hardest to upgrade - the search system - is what ultimately makes the AMP site the most useful to you. There are four ways to search the site, as there were before, but they're faster than ever before, and hopefully easier to use too. To find out how to use them, just login to AMP, and go to the top item - SEARCH - on AMP's website menu.

In addition to the website upgrade, I've been putting together two Boards: an international Advisory Board made up of an astoundingly astute and creative group of AMP members, and a Board of Directors, who will be working with me to take AMP where it needs to go. Already-established connections, concepts and services will be strengthened and deepened, as we look for ways to expand your possibilities.

Julie Adler Crown
AMP is very proud to present Julie Adler as our Member of the Month! Julie is a singer, performance artist, composer, visual artist and writer who lives in Los Angeles, California, USA. As a singer, she has performed works by such contemporary composers as Somei Satoh, George Crumb and Thea Musgrave, among many others, and has worked with the Long Beach Opera, the Don Brenigar Singers and the medieval group ORBE: Voices of Spirit. As a composer, Julie was nominated for a LA WEEKLY Theatre Award, is co-producer of EARJAM, an annual LA new music extravaganza, and is curator/producer of ‘Vocal Lounge’, a monthly music/vocal series. In 2004, she produced (and performed in) ‘Call & Response’, a sold-out benefit concert at REDCAT featuring the Tibetan monks of Drepung Gomang monastery in South India juxtaposed with the works of 5 contemporary classical composers. As a member of the Cal Arts Alumni Board of Directors, Julie also helped with their various performance events, including the curating and producing of ‘Mother Load’, an alumni concert featuring a collaborative work she did called ‘Grilled’, using BBQ grills and voice.

Julie has traveled to China, Mongolia and India as well as Europe and Central America, and has lived in Paris while in residence at the Ecole des Beaux Arts with artist Annette Messager. Now in Los Angeles, she is a certified Iyengar yoga instructor, a student of Tibetan Buddhism and volunteers for Cedars-Sinai Hospice program. Visit AMP to learn more about Julie, and visit Julie on MySpace to hear some of her music.

Closet Universe
So now that AMP's moving into new territory with an upgraded website, the formation of an international Advisory Board and a Board of Directors, and a constantly growing membership, what's happening in the coming year? First on the agenda are working on developing the new features that the new website technology makes possible, and expanding the reach of the AMP community network into every corner of the known universe. I'm so proud that our membership numbers are now well over 2,000, represented in 61 countries - the latest is Zimbabwe, represented by AMP member jasen, a producer, director, and filmmaker in Harare, Zimbabwe's capital city. This is far more than just a matter of numbers; the way I see it, every AMP member is a resource for every other AMP member, and with every addition to our community, your potential for increased knowledge, connections, and inspiration grows exponentially.

Life in the Sunshine
And while it's tremendously useful for you, AMP's website is only a beginning to a developing community. We're in the long-term planning stages for an International Arts Center for AMP - first here in Los Angeles, with more in the queue of conceptualization - and have already begun to meet at AMP's events. The next one is planned for Saturday night, March 24th, at Art Share Los Angeles in Downtown LA - mark it on your calendar!

What can you do to help AMP grow? You can always pass on an email invitation to join AMP to any and all artists you know, anywhere in the world - just click on the below link, copy the invitation, and send it on. But a community seems to gather much more meaning when people can meet face to face. If you live in the areas of Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Amsterdam, or anywhere in Australia, I welcome your input on producing events in these places in 2007.

Welcome to 2007 with AMP! It's going to be a great year, so show us you're there! Say hello to me and your fellow AMP members by email, post some of your art on the website, tell us about your part of the world in a blog, and get to know the AMP community online and in person. It could be the most diverse, creative, interesting group of people you'll ever meet.

Kindest regards,
