Dear Friends and AMP Members,

On Sunday night, December 17, from 7-10 pm, AMP, the Artists’ Meeting Place and Resource Collective, is gathering the diverse talents of its members for its first benefit and fundraiser. This will be an exciting multimedia art event, featuring:

  • music from local favorite bands Listing Ship and the Jeff Merchant Band and singer-songwriters James Hurley, Brett Mikels, and Art Terry
  • experimental film from Munich animator Baerbel Neubauer and Amsterdam filmmaker Christina Della Giustina
  • a special circuit-bending demonstration from musician Jeff Boynton and psycho sign go-go dancer Mona Jean Cedar
  • an exhibition of AMP Member visual arts including work by Fumiko Amano, Kira Vollman, and Mara Safransky
  • performance from the night’s Master of Ceremonies, Scot Nery, the extraordinary pancake juggler
All art and performances are by AMP Members. Financial proceeds go toward the establishment of a Los Angeles International Art Center for AMP, with projected opening date September 1, 2007. Donations of art supplies are requested, to be given to the Free Arts for Abused Children program in Los Angeles. The event is being held at Art Share Los Angeles, located in downtown Los Angeles at 326 S. Hewitt St. Click here for event details and directions.

scot cooking
AMP is very proud to feature the remarkable Scot Nery as our AMP Benefit & Fundraiser's Master of Ceremonies. Starting with professional magic shows at age 11, Scot Nery has performed in the US, Scotland and Japan, toured with Brooks & Dunn, produced his own theater cooking show, created his own style of juggling and joke writing, and was even a clown at Sea World. Comedy clubs, rock clubs, movie and commercial sets, living rooms, the streets, arenas and amphitheaters have been lucky enough to host Nery's hilarious - and astonishing - performances. Scot Nery is definitely my favorite pancake juggler, but he's so much more than that - which becomes quite obvious when you see him manipulate an escape through the straps of his backpack. Scot wants you to know that he's very happy to be here.

mona jean cedar
AMP Members Mona Jean Cedar and Jeff Boynton have something really interesting to show you. It involves circuit-bent instruments such as the one pictured at the top of this invitation, the Ridiculatron 2000. Jeff and Mona Jean both have their own unique creative skills: Mona Jean is a trained ASL sign language interpreter and dancer, has brought her sign and dance into rock and roll to perform as a “psycho-sign-go-go-dancer,” and has taught ballet, tap dance, modern dance, jazz dance, and sign language to children and adults, while Jeff has had a lifetime of fascinating experiences with the keyboards, including performing in the first "Circuit Bending Orchestra" at the Fusion Arts Museum as part of the HOWL Festival in New York City, and playing keyboards with Wall of Voodoo at the Pacific Amphitheater, opening for Cyndi Lauper.

Together, they have been experimenting with circuit bending-electronica music. Sensors are attached to Mona Jean’s hands and body which create impulses that control Jeff’s circuit-bent instruments, while adding visuals of the text as graphics. I'm pretty excited to see Jeff's amps hanging around the performance space.

I can't wait to see you there! Click here for event details, mark your calendars for Sunday, December 17, 7-10 pm, bring some art supplies for the Free Arts for Abused Children program, and have a great evening with AMP!

Kindest regards,

Terri Grey Hat
