Dear AMP Member,
Kenny, George, and Colin

Edinburgh, Glasgow, Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, Munich, New York, San Francisco, Berkeley - AMP's been making friends! The mission is to connect creative communities, and it seems to be working. Artists from all over the world - hundreds every day - are checking out AMP through our community website. We're now represented by over 1100 artists in over 35 countries. AMP Member Bekka is on her first European tour, organized largely through AMP (more about that shortly). AMP has also connected several artists in Benin, Africa with Denmark-based TSLO (The Spirit Lives On, an organization with the mission of exhibiting art by non-professional artists, headed by AMP Member Becky), with whom they're now exhibiting their textile art. Indeed, the world is watching! Kenny, George, and Colin (pictured above in Edinburgh) are watching! What do you have to say? Who do you want to know about it?

I Am The Door
So how do you connect creative communities? There are many ways, and one of these is information. You can't walk through a door if you can't find it, but AMP is building a huge resource for you - an international arts directory. As in the accompanying photo (taken in the basement of beat poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti's City Lights bookstore in San Francisco), AMP aims to be a doorway to the art world. Every time I travel, I seek out information about the local art scenes. When I come home, it becomes a part of the AMP International Arts Directory, which you can find on the bottom right of AMP's home page. As it's only me doing this so far (in my breaks from teaching at the university), and it's totally dependent on whatever pieces of information I find around the next corner of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, or North Beach in San Francisco, or in the Gaertnerviertel of Munich, it's rather entertainingly (at least to me) haphazard and idiosyncratic. However, you also can contribute, and we would all love it if you would. Explore the directory, and if you have questions about how to contribute, just email me at pluginamp@gmail.com. The more information, the more ways to connect, the larger your world. Contribute to your international art community!

Bekka
AMP Member bekka is a trailblazer - she's the first to have used AMP to organize a tour! In fact, it's her first European tour ever, through Paris, Berlin, and Amsterdam, and she'll be meeting up with fellow AMP members all the way. Bekka Fink is the composer/lyricist/lead vocal/guitar of Bekka's Frogland Orchestra, a singer/dancer with Thunderpussy (www.thunderpussyforever.com), and singer with FRENDZ (hip/hop soul...think Marvin Gaye meets Prince) . After years of working with other people's bands and theater companies, Bekka realized that she needed to write and sing her mind and heart about the spiritual and environmental state of Mother Earth and her creatures. Her music is fueled by her passions for frogs (and other slimy things), the sacred wildness and importance of feminine energy, and helping children to receive and share love. Think Patti Smith, Beck, and Henry Purcell in a blender. Look for more from Bekka in the future, including her upcoming interview on Radio Free Amsterdam! She might be giving you tips on how to use AMP to set up your own tours...

And speaking of Radio Free Amsterdam, AMP Member creativeresources has this to say: Radio Free Amsterdam is now accepting submissions of new full length, indie albums of any genre for play on our new program "What's New - album preview." Also, while we have many musical submissions for the program "Global Open Mike", we are looking for non-musical submissions....such as drama, comedy, documentary, reviews, interviews, poetry, etc. etc. etc........ Submissions or questions may be sent to radiofreeamsterdam@gmail.com or globalopenmike@gmail.com Global Open Mike or What's New in subject line. Large files may be sent for free from: www.sendthisfile.com or mail submissions to: Radio Free Amsterdam postbus 10398 1001EJ Amsterdam NL best formats are audio cd or mp3 (128 kbps) www.radiofreeamsterdam.com

Waverly Train Station
The AMP that you see now is only a small corner of what it will be in the future. AMP is going to be growing and developing in the coming weeks, months, and years, and we'd really like to hear more from you. If you haven't yet put a picture in your profile, or started a blog - well, think about it. You never know who's going to be looking in on AMP! Musicians - why not upload an MP3 of your music to your blog, or post a blog on your upcoming shows - or both? Photographers, painters, and other visual artists - we'd love it if you'd post some of your art in the image galleries. Writers of any sort - try following the lead of lindakentartist and Mister E and post your work in your blog. Know about a competition, a call for submissions, or a worthy art project that the world should know about? Post a notice in AMP's forums! Or try my favorite thing - get to know your fellow AMP community members by logging in, clicking on "AMP Members: A Complete List," and browsing for a while. Otherwise, you may never find out about Juliet Annerino's show "The Lord's Lover," wrighta, our bagpiper in Edinburgh (he has full military dress!), or stevebrown, our new professional yo-yo performer.

So plug in, share what you know, help your international arts community, and expand your possibilities.

Yours Internationally,

Shadow Puppets in Leith
