Perception is EVERYTHING!
This past week I had the opportunity to speak before the Spring Lake/Brielle Rotary club about hypnosis and the power of suggestion.
During such a talk I usually point out that hypnosis is not really about mind control. Rather it allows you to tap into the hidden power of your subconscious mind.
Hypnosis can allow for profound shifts in perception which is why it can be so helpful in overcoming negative habits of thought, feeling and behavior.
There are some problems where the obstacles are real and tangible. For example the bad economy or having an obvious organic illness.
However, many if not most personal limitations are based on faulty perception and belief.
A fatal mistake is to believe that you experience reality with perfect accuracy. Instead we fill in the gaps with what we already believe.
Here is an experiment for my U.S readers. Without peeking at a real sample, visualize a penny, nickel, dime and quarter. Got the image in mind?
Good, now do the presidents on the faces of those coins all face left, right or does it vary? Would you be willing to bet $100 that you are absolutely correct?
Chances are that you have handled those coins virtually every day of your life, yet you haven't really perceived them. This in part because such info is fairly worthless to anyone save an avid coin collector.
However, the beliefs you have about yourself are often just as muddled and inaccurate but are far more important.
Whenever I hear a client say that he or she has never accomplished anything they feel proud of, it is pretty obvious that they have mentally filtered out memories and experiences that contradict that negative belief about themselves.
Virtually everyone has done things they could feel proud of-if only their perceptions allowed that recognition.
The fact is what like to call "reality" has a plastic quality to it, so you might as well mold it into a shape that really works for you.
P.S- Honest Abe on the penny faces right, the other three face left.
