There is an educational component when conducting a hypnosis session that includes explaining the differences between the conscious and subconscious mind.
The conscious mind is said to be logical and analytical while the subconscious mind operates on conditioned patterns of thought, feeling and behavior.
That the subconscious mind functions on ingrained patterns gives us a window of understanding as to why change can be such a challenge.
Dick Sutphen, in his book Soul Agreements, points out that while many of us want to change for the better, that desire is often tinged with fear and is subsequently resisted. Why is this so?
Although the higher self wishes to evolve and grow, the subconscious mind seeks permanency and will induce feelings of fear when we venture outside of our familiar "comfort" zones-even if the current status quo is dysfunctional and unhealthy.
Sutphen opines, "
And permanency is a great big faulty assumption, because it simply does not exist. But what if you could lock up life so that permanency were possible? Nothing would ever change. Tomorrow would be a repetition of today. Next year, everything the same. Five years down the road exactly the same. Boring! Static! Depressing! It is not knowing that makes life exciting and generates aliveness." Hypnosis can help you remain calm and confident while pursuing your best self. Live dangerously!
An affirmation for you to consider:
"Always follow your heart, it knows the way."
