Greetings!
Welcome to another issue of the Creative Calm newsletter, I trust this finds you on the verge of discovering a bright and beautiful New World-and if not give me a call at (732) 714-7040!
The feature article this month is about one of my favorite four letter words: LUCK! Is belief in luck a superstition or something else entirely different? You may be surprised.
My friends at Salon du Monde have put together a fundraiser where you get to do good, look good and laugh at the same time!

Getting Lucky?
Since the financial collapse of 2008 many people are feeling less than lucky. Yet some people are continuing to thrive in spite of it. Are they the lucky ones?
The term "luck" suggests different things depending who you ask.
Amongst less technologically advanced societies, the belief system often is that good or bad fortune is the result of whether the gods were pleased with you or not. Thus rituals and sacrifices evolved so the group or individual could stay on the good side of the spirit world.
Remnants of this type of belief system persist in more modern cultures in the form of superstitions like throwing salt over your shoulder or carrying a four clover and so on.
Some speculate that these superstitions help people cope with uncertainty and anxiety by giving the illusion of control.
Then there are those individuals who maintain there is no such as luck and that while you have some control over your fate, there is a randomness in life that cannot be accounted for or predicted.
Yet another view is that those people who we consider lucky actually have different mindsets and behaviors than those we consider unlucky.
Groundbreaking work on the topic was carried out by U.K. psychologist Richard Wiseman who was curious why some folks seem to live a charmed life while others mirror the lyrics of the classic blues song Born Under a Bad Sign, "it it wasn't for bad luck, I would have no luck at all!"
Apparently lucky people and the unlucky perceive the world differently and have different behaviors. Some of the more significant traits include:
-Being outgoing, open and friendly to others. Success is rarely achieved without outside help. Instead it is often the result of connecting with the right people at the right time. The larger your social network, the better the odds of that happening.
-Trusting intuition. Lucky people will often act on a golden opportunity when it presents itself. Their unlucky brethren mistrust or ignore their hunches and let those prospects pass them by.
-Transforming adversity into opportunity. No one is immune to random misfortune and there is no credibililty to the notion that positive thinking will enable you to avoid problems completely. Its how you respond to them that matters.
-Expecting good things to happen in the future. The power of the self-fulfilling prophecy is quite real; we tend to move in the direction of our most dominant thoughts. And this trait ties together the previous three.
If you have positive expectations you are going to be less reluctant or fearful to connect with others.
You would be more willing to trust your intuition and would persist in the face of setbacks since you just knew that things would get better eventually.
A self-hypnosis suggestion for you to consider "I am a lucky person, today is another lucky day and something wonderful is about to happen."
