Fear is similar to pain in that it usually provides a warning signal that something is wrong and tells us that we need to take some sort of protective action. However irrational fear is unhealthy and can severely limit the life of a sufferer and that of those who love and care for them.
If I had to choose, I might say that reducing unhealthy fears is the most rewarding problem to work with because the client is almost always highly motivated to improve. After all, who really wants to hang onto their fear of public speaking or flying?
Hypnosis, deals with the subconscious mind and is the natural choice of assistance when working with fears because fears are subconscious in nature, no one chooses to have them.
In fact, its been my observation that trying to consciously reason or argue away an irrational fear often has the opposite effect and can entrench it deeper. The individual realizes that they "shouldn't" be afraid, yet they do anyway and can begin to feel helpless and ashamed.
Below are some facts about unhealthy fears that you may find interesting.
- The physical body cannot distinguish a real from a vividly imagined experience. Dwell on fearful images strongly enough and you will respond as if something bad were truly happening. The body undergoes chemical changes that activates the three basic fear responses: fight, flight or freeze.
- The mind normally does a good job of distinguishing possible from probable. No activity is completely safe and it is unreasonable to expect otherwise. For example, most people will ride in a car even though there is always some chance of being involved in an accident. However, since the risk is fairly small, you decide to proceed. A person with an unhealthy fear is treating an event that is possible as if it were probable-although it should be added, not on purpose.
-Human beings are born with only two fears, falling and loud noises. All others are learned. The good news is that they can also be unlearned and you can reprogram yourself to a healthier response.

Complete Inner Winner Self-Hypnosis Program

During the past few weeks I have been putting together something you may be interested in, the Complete Inner Winner Self-Hypnosis Program.
Those of you who have worked with me in the past know that you were invariably assigned some sort of self-hypnosis homework until you reached your goal.
What this new offering entails is a 4 session program that will teach you an effective method of self-hypnosis that you can apply independently in the future for any challenge you may encounter.
In addition to the 4 office visits you will also have "homework" which you will be able to complete in less than 10 minute a day-a small investment for a healthier and more successful future wouldn't you say?
Since I am looking for some people to give the Complete Inner Winner Self Hypnosis Program a test run and provide me with some feedback, there is a low introductory rate of just $237 if you start before 8/1/09. Either email or call (732) 714-7040 to learn more.
