Greetings!

There are so many stories and information in the news this week that I'm getting this together for you from deep in the woods of Missouri. Big thanks to Ed Sherry for many of the links and pats on the back to our forum members for keeping things so interesting.

Jackie Kennedy's 1964 Interviews To Be Published, Audiotapes To Be Released

NEW YORK - During the first half of 1964, just months after her husband was assassinated, Jacqueline Kennedy sat for seven interviews with historian and family friend Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr. They met at her home in Washington, D.C., where the former first lady discussed her marriage, her White House years, election-year campaigning and her husband's thoughts about a second term. The interview is part of what became the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library's Oral History and, at Jacqueline Kennedy's request, was kept sealed for an indefinite time. She died in 1994. Now, with the 50th anniversary of her father's inauguration coming next year, daughter Caroline Kennedy is allowing the conversations to be widely released. According to Hyperion, the interviews will cover everything from early campaigns to the Cuban Missile Crisis to Jacqueline Kennedy's role as first lady.

New Interview With Joan Mellen

"Jim Garrison: His Life and Times"

Radio host Gordon Comstock has a new interview with author Joan Mellen on his radio program. (http://www.gordoncomstock.com/) Although this book only touches on the Garrison's investigation into the Kennedy assassination, the foreword offers new details of the evidence that Lee Harvey Oswald was debriefed upon his return from the Soviet Union, a debriefing the CIA has always denied. An appendix re-examines the elusive figure of Jack Martin in the Kennedy case. Order the book... http://joanmellen.com/books.html

Top Secret America

A hidden world, growing beyond control

One of the most important series published by the Washington Post -- "Top Secret America" is a project nearly two years in the making that describes the huge national security buildup in the United States after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. VIDEO Top Secret America on Frontline A short video from PBS's FRONTLINE on The Post's two-year investigation. An hour-long documentary film will run in October. Watch the trailer » http://projects.washingtonpost.com/top-secret-america/articles/frontline-video/ THE REPORTERS Dana Priest Investigative reporter Dana Priest has been The Washington Post's intelligence, Pentagon and health-care reporter. She has won numerous awards, including the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for public service for "The Other Walter Reed" and the 2006 Pulitzer for beat reporting for her work on CIA secret prisons and counterterrorism operations overseas. She is author of the 2003 book, "The Mission: Waging War and Keeping Peace With America's Military, (W.W. Norton). William M. Arkin William M. Arkin has been a columnist and reporter with The Washington Post and washingtonpost.com since 1998. He has worked on the subject of government secrecy and national security affairs for more than 30 years. He has authored or co-authored more than a dozen books about the U.S. military and national security. When it comes to national security, all too often no expense is spared and few questions are asked - with the result an enterprise so massive that nobody in government has a full understanding of it. It is, as Dana Priest and William M. Arkin have found, ubiquitous, often inefficient and mostly invisible to the people it is meant to protect and who fund it. The articles in this series and an online database at topsecretamerica.com depict the scope and complexity of the government's national security program through interactive maps and other graphics. Every data point on the Web site is substantiated by at least two public records. We look forward to your feedback and can be reached at topsecretamerica@washpost.com.

Oliver Stone and the politics of film-making

There's no let-up for Hollywod's most controversial director - the sequel to Wall Street, a documentary about Hugo Chávez and his most ambitious and personal project to date, the secret history of America

He's as committed as he ever has been, if not more so. Politically, workaholically. There's still a relentless drive to work, work, work. It's coming up to 9pm by the time I leave his office and nobody seems to be making a move to go home. His film editor has been waiting patiently for him in the room next door, ready to attack yet another section of Oliver Stone's Secret History of America. There's another documentary on Castro to come - the third part of his trilogy. He'd like to do an update to his novel, he says, some sort of epilogue. There are the final edits on Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. And then there's South of the Border to launch in London. And defend from attacks all over again.

This gives much better quality but you need a VHS machine capable of playing S-VHS for them to play. Most if not all of the newer VHS machines will play S-VHS but not the old ones. There are S-VHS video players readily available. S-VHS gives much better resolution especially if you play through S-Video cables on a high resolution monitor. If you transfer to DVD you can play them 1080I or 11080p on BlueRay machines with compatible TV making a lot of them pristine. Some of the tapes here are not well described but all of them have some vital data in them. One includes a Fox Movietone News segment which seems to have a recorded sound of gunshots. I believe there is a possibility these could be authentic and have been lost in the shuffle. This needs further analysis. The Conalley interview on Larry King where he says without question he WAS hit by the second shot is crucial.
