THE PRESIDENT AND THE DCI: TEN AUDIO RECORDS
President Richard M. Nixon and Director of Central Intelligence Richard M.. Helms
Audio recordings of ten conversations between President Richard M. Nixon and Director of Central Intelligence Richard M.. Helms are now available online. The conversations, which took place in 1971 and 1972, addressed topics including Vietnam, the India-Pakistan War of 1971, the Soviet Union, China, the Bay of Pigs, and more. Several of the recordings are still partially censored for national security reasons. The materials were selected and prepared for online publication by Texas historian Dr. Luke Nichter. Nichter
created the nixontapes.org website in July 2007 with the intention of finally making available
to researchers and the public a user-friendly, complete collection of the Nixon
tapes. http://www.nixontapes.org/rmh.htm |
Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Piano For Sale
from Hammersmith Farm
The asset is a piano from Hammersmith Farm, the Newport, RI childhood home of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis and the "Summer White House" for President and Mrs. Kennedy. It is an Aeolian Walnut Baby Grand Piano that was manufactured in 1909 and resided at Hammersmith Farm until 1999, when the house was sold to a private buyer. The piano was played at the wedding reception of President and Jackie Kennedy; is said to have been tinkered on by Jackie during her childhood years; and was played by Liberace during his visit to Hammersmith Farm. The piano's serial number traces to a 1909 manufacture date and tuners' etchings in the piano show dates and initials from 1959-1986. We acquired the piano at auction in March of 2001. We were told it was to be part of the original Christie's auction of Hammersmith Farm furnishings in 2000; however, there was some confusion and the piano was mistakenly excluded from the auction. It was then auctioned by Micheal Corcoran, Gustave, J.S. White Co., Newport, Rhode Island. Attached is a photo of the Kennedy family with the piano. This photo was obtained from the Kennedy Library in Boston. You will also note a letter from Hugh D. Auchincloss III, Jackie's stepbrother, attesting to the piano's history. For further reference, the piano was also featured in the August 1991 copy of Architectural Digest. As this instrument was played regularly by the family when Jackie was growing up and at the wedding of President and Jackie Kennedy, we hope its cultural significance would be prized by you. If you know of anyone who may be interested, please e-mail me at cmsamson46@hotmail.com. |
Kennedy Assassination in Popular Culture
Films and DVD
It is always interesting to see how many references to either JFK or RFK's assassination and surrounding events are used in film or written works. Here are some recently sent in:
WATCHMEN movie When an ex-superhero is murdered, a vigilante named Rorschach begins an
investigation into the murder, which begins to lead to a much more
terrifying conclusion.
The opening credits sequence contains two JFK sequences, one filmed in Dealey Plaza. Official Site | IMDB Site
Frame of Mind New Jersey Detective David Secca's life is changed forever when he
discovers a piece of film in an antique box. On the film is a lone man,
concealing a rifle, standing on a grassy knoll.

The International An Interpol agent attempts to expose a high-profile financial institution's role in an international arms dealing ring.
Practically the first half of this excellent movie is one JFK/RFK assassination situation after another. The filming and locations are superb. IMDB site | Trailer
