Rare JFK Collectible Available
The two original limousine lap blankets
You are invited to bid on these... TWO (2) AUTHENTIC DARK BLUE JFK LIMOUSINE (X-100) BROADCLOTH LAP ROBES/BLANKETS Here is a unique opportunity to obtain a set of ultra-rare historical collectibles from John F. Kennedy's presidential limousine (code named X-100). We have in our possession both of the dark blue broadcloth lap blankets / robes that were made especially for the limousine and used by the President during chilly open-air rides. These lap robes are the only two that are known to exist for that presidential limo. When not being used, the blankets were each stored snuggly in the inside pocket of each rear door (see photo for depiction). The heavy blankets are dark blue on one side with the presidential seal hand sewn into them. The back side of each blanket features a soft gray plush lining. The blankets were each made with 10 button/snaps, used to attach it to the inside paneling of the car or to each other. Two of the snaps are missing in one of the blankets per photographs. The other blanket has all snaps in tact. * Each blanket measures 51" long by 41.5" wide * Hand embroidered Presidential Seal on the front of each blanket measures 6.75" in diameter, reads - "Seal of the President of the United States", and features the traditional American Eagle in the center (with arrows and olive branch) * Button snaps marked RAU-Fastener Co.
Per a December 18, 1963 memo (stored at the National Archives) the lap robes were in the rear seat area of JFK's limousine when it was returned from Dallas to the White House garage on November 22, 1963. The auction includes a letter of authenticity from the current owner that describes how he obtained the blankets. These items are stored in an off-site bank safe but are available for inspection at our store by appointment (with 24-hour notice) Monday - Saturday 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. Please contact 301-990-2040. Serious inquiries only. Read More... |
Legacy of Secrecy: The Long Shadow of the JFK Assassination
By Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartmann
As new work is showcased at each "November In Dallas" conference, "Legacy" was previewed to conference attendees last year, and includes the first publication of some documents that conference attendees first saw two years ago. "Legacy" contains the first publication of godfather Carlos Marcello's uncensored confession to ordering JFK's assassination, including meetings with Lee Oswald and Jack Ruby, all from long-suppressed FBI files. The book details for the first time the secret FBI undercover operation that obtained Marcello's confession--and how the FBI covered it up for years. The book also has new information about the confessions of Marcello's partners in the assassination, Santo Trafficante and Johnny Rosselli. The book contains new information about the work of E. Howard Hunt on AMWORLD and JFK's plan to overthrow Fidel Castro using Cuban Army Commander Juan Almeida. The includes the Mafia ties of many of Hunt's close associates, and Hunt's little-known role in working with the media both in 1963 and in the years prior to Watergate. "Legacy" shows how all the government secrecy surrounding JFK's murder allowed three of those conspirators--Marcello, Joseph Milteer, and Johnny Rosselli--to have roles in the murder of Martin Luther King. It has new details about the ties of James Earl Ray to Marcello's drug network, how Milteer and his partners paid for King's murder, and how Ray contacted Milteer's associate the day after Dr. King's murder. "Legacy" raises new questions about the murder of Robert Kennedy, focusing on the criminal ties of Sirhan and some of his family members. It also reveals an earlier Castro assassination plot linked to David Morales, that involved using a pistol-wielding gunman in a kitchen pantry. |
Mayor Leppert launches Dealey Plaza improvements in Dallas
By DAVID FLICK / The Dallas Morning News
Working a lever from the back of a batch truck, Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert on Thursday [October 30th] poured six yards of concrete along Dealey Plaza, officially launching a $840,000 renovation of the city's most famous - and, internationally, infamous - public space.
When the renovation is completed in December, it will freshen up the 60-year-old esplanade along Houston Street on the plaza, the place where the city was born, where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated and which has since become one of the state's most heavily trafficked tourist attractions. |
