Greetings!

Last week, Josh, one of our seniors, knocked on my door to show me his college acceptance letter, which awarded him nearly a full scholarship to one of the Boston area's more prominent colleges.  The total tuition he will pay as a freshman in college is close to what it costs him to attend Cristo Rey this year.  Josh beamed with excitement and told me his mother, a widow who raised her son alone, was thrilled.  It was a real privilege to share in this important moment in his life.

Interestingly, Josh is weighing offers from other colleges, and our staff will help him and his classmates choose the school that is the best fit.  Four years of hard work, support from dedicated teachers and contributions from friends like you made it possible for Josh to do something no one in his family has ever done - go to college.

The data show that our alumni are staying in college at a higher rate than their peers.  The combination of going to work and studying in a supportive environment has an incredibly positive impact on students who otherwise might not think of pursuing a post-secondary degree.

We invite you to celebrate the success of our students at our annual Cristo Rey Boston Spring Gala on Thursday, May 5th at 6:00 p.m. That evening our top five scholars will reveal where they've chosen to attend college next year.  You won't want to miss this festive and fun event.

Thank you for all you do for our young people. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Gratefully,

Corporate Partner Novartis Enhances Science for Cristo Rey

Novartis Scientist at Cristo Rey Boston

Novartis, a leader in healthcare products, contributes to our students' education as a partner in the Corporate Work Study Program. In March, the company went beyond their role and brought their lessons out of the workplace and into the Cristo Rey Boston community. On March 31st, Novartis sent Dr. Olga Shebanova to teach two classes, and on March 23rd, the company sponsored a field trip to the MIT Museum for all sophomore Biology students.

Cristo Rey Boston Honors North Cambridge Catholic Board Members
     North Cambridge Catholic Board Plaque

Cristo Rey Boston High School honored the hard work and dedication of its Board of Trustees with the dedication of the North Cambridge Conference Room. The conference room features a plaque adorned with the names of Board members who were instrumental in bringing the Cristo Rey model to North Cambridge Catholic High School, and supported the school as it transitioned to Dorchester.

We salute the hard work of all these individuals, and are proud to have their names featured in the North Cambridge Room for the years to come.

Getting in Shape on Savin Hill Ave
     Strength and Conditioning Program

A new initiative is taking students in Dorchester by storm - the Cristo Rey Strength and Conditioning Program! Led by Mr. Kimmerle, Cristo Rey Boston students have gained a new perspective on fitness through lifting weights, medicine ball training, cardio exercises and more. Monday through Thursday from 3:30 PM through 4:30 PM, students are learning easy ways to stay in shape that can have lifelong effects on their health.

This new program would not have been possible without incredibly generous donations of equipment from Again Faster Equipment, Fitcorp of Boston, and Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning. Many thanks to these fantastic organizations for making this program a success!
