Sam Rogers, last years Champion, is again in the lead after the first day of racing. For the full results go to:
2008 E National Results
We had a long 8 hours on the water for the first day. The Harbor gun sounded at 10:00 am and most boats didn't get back to the dock until 6, with no chance of a shore break all day.
Winds were mostly light from the southwest to northwest, 5-7, with occasionally more breeze 7-10 during the day. Crews had to move frequently from one side to the other for most of the races, and on some legs more than others.
The racing day started with a general recall, followed by a Z-flag attempt, followed by a black-flag start. The black-flag stayed up the rest of the day for all races. That didn't prevent more general recalls. Those that were identified as over early on those general recalls were black flagged and not eligible to start in the next attempt to get the race off.
There were a lot of unhappy sailors with this method of race management. A big round of applause broke out at the annual meeting when one member expressed his dissatisfaction with the "heavy handed" approach by the PRO.
Needless to say, a number of teams that were black flagged are hoping for 6 races so they get a throw out. Most noticeably are:
Andy Burdick (2,1,72/BFD)
Brian Porter (1, 17, 72/BFD)
Eric Johnson (24, 2, 72/BFD)
Today the maximum number of races that we will be allowed to sail is two. They will be back-to-back. The forecast has the wind moving from south to west, 9-12 mph. However, there is a "definite" chance of thunderstorms and rain showers. Stay tuned.
