John Wesley said, "Earn all you can. Save all you can. Give all you can." When we consider becoming a follower of Christ we adopt His attitude of generosity. Christ followers realize they have been bought with the price of Christ's blood and that everything they are and have belongs to Him.
In light of this, they desire to be responsible caretakers of the material resources with which God has entrusted them. They recognize that giving their tithes (10% of one's earnings) is the historical standard of giving in Scripture. But, moreover, in response to Christ's abundant giving, they increasingly submit their resources to His Lordship and display a spirit of generosity and cheerfulness in supporting the work of the church and reaching out, with compassion, to a needy world.
Talk to the person you are mentoring about the videos they watched in the lesson. Ask them if they have considered ways they can give to and serve others. Talk about the fact that Christians need to manage their resources well so they can be generous when they find someone in need. |
