"Christ followers know that the grace of God that saved them is only the beginning of His work in them. They gratefully respond by actively pursuing a lifelong process of spiritual growth in Christ and by seeking to become conformed to His image. To this end, they consistently nurture their spiritual development through prayer, worship, and Bible study." (Bill Donahue).
As you work through this lesson on worship together:
- Emphasize the importance of becoming involved in a local church where the person you are mentoring can experience worship regularly.
- Let him know that worship can be both corporate and private. This means they may worship when they are alone; any time and anywhere. However, we are not to neglect corporate worship. It is important to worship regularly with a group of believers.
- Share the things you enjoy about worship, or about times when you have grown closer to God through worship.
- Discuss the various ways people choose to worship. How does he feel most comfortable worshiping God? Are there any areas where he may feel uncomfortable or have questions?
- Review the section on "The Heart of an Artist". If the person you are mentoring has artistic abillities or enjoys a particular art form, discuss ways art can be incorporated into the worship experience.
- Ask him how things are going in his life. Is there any area where he may need encouragement?
- Always make sure to pray together.
Sometimes new believers can become complacent or slip back into their old habits and lifestyles. In the middle of this week, make personal contact with the person you are mentoring. Ask him how he is doing and let him know you are praying for him. |
