Columbus Neighborhoods Movie Premiere

 

On February 14 at noon come celebrate Columbus' 200th birthday at the Ohio Theatre with the premiere of WOSU Columbus Neighborhoods: Downtown/Franklinton. Columbus Bicentennial Grants Available to Neighborhoods
 

The Greater Columbus Arts Council, in association with the JP Morgan Chase Foundation and 200Columbus The Bicentennial organization, has announced that a second round of grants is available to non-profit organizations to commemorate Columbus' Bicentennial year and the role of neighborhoods in the shaping of Columbus' past, present and future. Winning projects will receive grants in the amount of 500.00 to 10,000.00. All central Ohio neighborhoods in Franklin, Delaware, Fairfield, Licking, Madison, Pickaway and Union counties are eligible. Columbus Business First Corporate Caring Awards


 
The Corporate Caring Awards honor companies that are creatively dedicating their resources to a variety of nonprofit organizations. Awards are given to small, medium and large companies in the following categories: Arts & Humanities, Education, Health & Human Services; and Environmental & Civic. A Benefactor of the Year award is given to recognize one outstanding corporation for its overall excellence. Columbus Historical Society Seeks Volunteers


 
The Columbus Historical Society has moved and is preparing to open a new 2,300 square foot exhibit space in February at COSI. They are in need of docents to assist in telling the story of Columbus. Duties include providing exhibit tours, assist with creation and presentation of educational programs, maintain and service exhibit as needed, and work with guests who visit the exhibit. Black History Month

The Ohio Statehouse
There are a variety of exhibits and special events happening throughout the month in honor of Black History Month. Check out a special K - third grade student art exhibit, Rosa Parks: The Power of One, with works expressing the students' artistic expression of how they would change the world for the better. On Tuesdays, living history programs will be presented in the Museum Gallery; visitors will meet first-person interpreters of prominent African-American figures in U.S. history (Harriet Tubman on February 7; Phyllis Wheatley on February 14; Rise and Ride: The Freedom Rider's Story on February 21; and George Washington Williams on February 28). On Wednesdays, enjoy musical performances from noon - 1 p.m. in the Crypt, featuring musical groups celebrating the legacy of music rooted in the African-American experience. Wednesdays also feature a special soul food menu in the Capitol Cafe. Throughout the month, enjoy special tours of the George Washington Williams Memorial, a tribute to Ohio's first African-American legislator.
