We all want to maintain our youth, both inside and out. The lastest research suggests collagen is the key to ageless skin and healthy hair, bones and joints. Scientists call collagen the most important building block in the human body.
Collagen comes in many forms. Cosmetic companies instruct you to "rub it on." Plastic surgeons simply say "inject it" and supplement companies have you "eating" collagen in the form of powders and pills. Eating it seems like the best option but the truth is, your body breaks the collagen down and uses it as food. Orthosilicic Acid is a biologically active form of silicon that is readily absorbed by the body and which is found in very dilute concentrations in nature in mineral water. OSA rapidly loses its stability during bottling and processing.

The manufacturers of BioSil, distributed in Canada by Preferred Nutrition have patented a method to stabilize the OSA with the vitamin choline. Known as ch-OSA, clinical studies have shown it helps the body to generate its own natural collagen pathways.
Here is the key information:
- Collagen makes up 70% of skin, 30% of bone and 70% of joints
- Collagen production decreases 1% per year, starting at age 21
- Choline has a positively charged nitrogen atom that interacts with OSA's electronegative oxygen atom creating the ch-OSAŽ complex
- Emerging research suggests choline has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and can protect against homocysteine damage.
- Not only does choline stabilize OSA, it acts as a 'transporter' of OSA into the target cells since OSA has no specific receptor site at the cell and choline has a very specific pathway through which it enters cells
- Once in the cell ch-OSA initiates positive biological mechanisms stimulating collagen synthesis and producing clinically relevant results
Bone Density: In a clinical trial (Spector et al., 2005), subjects were divided into two groups: BioSil and placebo. The BioSil groups took BioSil, calcium, and vitamin D. The placebo group took only calcium and vitamin D. Placebo subjects lost 1.22% in bone mineral density at the hip region whereas the BioSil subjects gained 0.78 %. That's a significant difference of 2.00% - twice the clinically relevant threshold.
Skin Elasticity: The clinical trial recruited fifty women between 40 and 65 years old with symptoms of aging facial skin. They were divided into two groups, one taking a placebo and the other taking 2 capsules of BioSil per day for the 20-week period (Barel et al., 2005). No other anti-aging treatment was followed. The results demonstrated that subjects taking BioSil experienced a 30% reduction in fine lines, wrinkles, and skin roughness compared to subjects taking placebo. Similarly, the skin of the BioSil group exhibited improved elasticity compared with those taking the placebo - as measured by standard viscometry.
