Ever since moving to North Miami almost 19 years ago there's this one particular stretch of West Dixie Highway that I've loved. Directly past the 163rd Street traffic light where the road begins to curve and the gorgeous Spanish Monastery peeks out from the right is where it starts, then it continues onto 172nd Street when you hit Greynolds Park.

It's the park with the hill (yes you read that right, a hill in Miami and it's a big one too!) The lovely lookout fort at its top is glorious and rolling down that hill, like my kids and even my husband have done many, many times, is a rite of passage when visiting here. Our family always brings  along the soccer ball, frisbee and football because the grassy area around the hill is perfect for any of these activities.

I love the nature trails too. There are several different paths and each one provides a spectacular view of the mangroves and soothing, calm, reflecting Oleta River. Canoes, paddleboats and kayaks are on standby for any park visitor who wants to paddle through the river and observe the animal and plant life both above and below the water.

One trail in particular has a beautiful bridge and a dock right on the water, two ideal spots for feeding turtles and fish. My kids and I always come stocked with crackers or bread for feeding. I warn you though, watch out for spider webs, they're everywhere! But thankfully, for the most part they're high enough that they're out of the way. I actually enjoy them because it gives me the opportunity to spot all types of the eight-legged wonders and is a great science lesson for my daughter who's pretty good at identifying them!

The park is also a favorite of golfers who love coming to Greynolds for their nine-hole course. I've worked with avid golfers who in the summer would regularly stop to hit nine on the way home from work.

Of course, Greynolds is ideal for picnicking, jogging, biking, rollerblading,  skateboarding and birthday parties. My daughter already asked if she could have hers there this year and naturally, she mentioned it while we were at the playground.

Now JABBERS there's no excuse, take a trip to this oasis and become one with nature.
