MemberWise Network eUpdate
Issue 9
  February 2012
Dear Colleague

Welcome to your February issue!

Dear

We are now into February and hopefully we will all leave behind the 'January Blues' that many of us have faced!

This month we share one of our ten ways to gain more members, promote a great offer from PARN,
find out how we can 'get the design right' in our membership/marketing literature, and provide information on how we are actively helping to signpost your organisation to news and media content providers.

Our Recruiting and Retaining Members conference is now only a month away and we are pleased to advise that there are now only 7 places remain.

This eUpdate is kindly sponsored by leading CRM provider and Platinum Sponsor of our forthcoming Recruiting and Retaining Members During Challenging Times conference, Silverbear.

Also, in this issue we partner with the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) to highlight 4 exciting new roles. See the Vacancy Service item in the right-hand column.

I hope that you enjoy this update and please do tell friends/colleagues!

Enjoy!

Ways to Gain More Members - 'Bullet-Proof' Your Planning

We recently delivered our Guardian Seminar, 10 Ways to Gain More Members. Over the coming months we are going to share these with you and we kick-off with 'Bullet-Proofing Planning'.

BulletproofWe promoted the key requirement that membership strategy should be driven by organisational strategy, and in turn membership strategy should be delivered through a clear, concise and SMART membership retention and recruitment plan.

The retention and recruitment plan should go much further than general retention and recruitment activity planning and become a forward focusing activity/document. How many of us have to admit to reading retrospectively in order to make sure 'bases have been covered'? Ideally the plan should be driving activity forward!

So what should feature in the plan? We are not going to go into the obvious points/structure, however it is worth thinking about these:

- Segmented campaigns

- Bringing lapsed members 'back to the fold'

- Ways to drive up member value proposition (MVP)

- Incorporate local and special interest rec/ret planning

Next month we will look at 'Way No 2' - Taking full advantage of the current economic climate and using it as an opportunity to engage with members.

Marketing Focus - Getting the design right!

Our sector has moved a long way in recent years and in today's over saturated image-led world trying to get your message seen as well as read to an increasingly visually sophisticated audience is challenging to say the least.

Coupled with a much tougher environment, particularly in light of the current economic downturn what can we do to effectively promote and market our campaigns?

designSteven Randall is a hands-on graphic designer (and owner of graphic design agency, Ocean) who has worked with a number of membership organisations including the RIBA, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the College of Optometrists. We asked him "How can we get the design right?"

Steven answers this critical question in an article hosted on our website and introduces content that he will be including in his 'Getting the Design Right' seminar at the forthcoming Recruiting and Retaining Members During Challenging Times conference on 5th March at One Whitehall Place.

MemberWise - Helping to raise your media profile

Just before Christmas we were contacted by a Sky News researcher who was looking to arrange an interview with a professional body representative.

The researcher stumbled across our 'List of subscribers' page on our website and advised that they had saved it to their 'Favourites' for future reference. They advised that the list was a great resource and that it could be much improved if subscribers' websites were linked from this.

PRWe received great feedback from the MemberWise subscriber for linking their organisation to the media as it helped to raise the profile of their organisation at zero cost.

We don't like the phrase 'stumbled accross' so we have enhanced our 'About our subscribers' page and hyperlinked organisations with their respective websites. Over the coming months we will be signposting this to media/news agencies

It would be great if you could check if all is present and correct with your link on our 'About our subscribers' page.  If it is incorrect or your organisation is not featured please email media@memberwise.org.uk
