Issue 4
  September 2011
Dear Colleague

It has been a busy couple of months at MemberWise as we gear-up to welcome our 1,000th member!

We have completely revamped our e-update and moving forward we will send this to you on a monthly basis.

Each issue will be sponsored by a leading sector supplier (this month Loud Marketing) and will contain a wealth of good practice-specific information and advice.

This month we highlight our popular Vacancy Service that is enabling a growing number of membership organisations and associations to attract high calibre candidates from within the sector.

Also, you can now update your personal details and outline professional interest areas online.

I hope that you enjoy reading this update!

Governance event to help senior leaders navigate through trouble waters...

We are now only 5 weeks away from our 'Embedding Sound Governance During Challenging Times' conference!

Leona Roche Speaker and solicitor, Leona Roche, Bates Wells and Braithwaite, explains

why senior leaders should attend:

"When challenging times hit, boards can find that much of their time and energy becomes focussed on managing or adjusting to changed circumstances, difficult funding environments, increased demands for services, and new risks that have emerged.

During such demanding and uncertain times, it is essential that boards of membership organisations and associations continue to maintain good governance practice and do not lose sight of their basic duties and responsibilities which can serve as a steady guide when navigating difficult waters.

In my session, we will return to the fundamental principles that underpin the board's responsibility for their organisation and which should inform all their decision-making processes.  This will include looking at the collective responsibility of the board and managing conflicts of interest."

You are invited to join senior leaders from over 45 high profile membership organisations and associations (including the Institute for Learning, Institute of Hospitality, Institution of Civil Engineers and the RSA) at this one-off conference.
