This past September, PTL invited a group of researchers for a day of complimentary particle size measurements to benefit their development of a "human powered" nebulizer (HPN). Dr. Lars Olson, Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Marquette University, has been working on creating these HPN devices in order to provide breathing treatments to patients who do not have access to electricity or inhalers, especially those in developing countries.
Dr. Olson contacted PTL and explained that testing was needed in order to compare the droplet size measurements in electric

nebulizers against his human powered nebulizer, in anticipation of upcoming clinical trials. PTL was excited to assist with this project, which will ultimately provide breathing treatments, diagnose cases of Tuberculosis, and even administer vaccines to patients who otherwise do not have these options available to them. PTL's Christopher Zmudka worked with Dr. Olson and Christopher Hallberg for the day, analyzing the droplet size of metered doses from both the human powered and electric nebulizers on our Malvern MasterSizer S LASER diffractor.
