THE CONGRESSIONAL SHIPBUILDING CAUCUS
WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY
The Congressional Shipbuilding Caucus is a bipartisan organization with more than 100 Members that provides a forum for Members of Congress, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard officers and industry leaders to exchange views on the current and future states of domestic shipbuilding. Chaired by Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) and Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2), the Caucus was established with three objectives: to build a venue for Members to discuss shipbuilding issues that impact their districts, to work together to support increased shipbuilding efforts for the United States Navy that will enhance our national security, and to improve awareness regarding shipbuilding matters across Capitol Hill. The Navy League is a proud sponsor of Congressional Shipbuilding Caucus events.
The Caucus convenes regular breakfasts that have hosted a number of sea service luminaries as guest speakers, including the Honorable Ray Mabus, Secretary of the Navy; Rear Admiral Vincent Atkins, United States Coast Guard; and Vice Admiral John Terence Blake, United States Navy.
The next Shipbuilding Caucus Breakfast will focus on commercial shipbuilding. On October 5th, Fred Harris, President of General Dynamics NASSCO and Frank Foti, President and CEO of Vigor Industrial, will address the Caucus members on the Hill to provide an industry perspective on the topic. General Dynamics NASSCO has been designing and building ships since 1959, specializing in auxiliary and support ships for the U.S. Navy and oil tankers and dry cargo carriers for commercial markets. Vigor Industrial performs ship repair and conversion, barge building, industrial coating, machining, industrial real estate, and fabrication services throughout the U.S.

By all measures, DSEi 2011 was a complete success for the Navy League of the United States and its pavilion exhibitors. This was the first year that NLUS participated as the host of the official Maritime Pavilion. Foot traffic was excellent as the pavilion was conveniently located next to the Victoria Docks where water borne demonstrations were taking place throughout the 4-day exposition.
Special appreciation goes to the U.S. Embassy's Trade Commission for arranging a VIP visit from the Deputy Chief of Mission, Deborah Stephensen. Ms. Stephensen was able to visit pavilion exhibitors, Thrustmaster of Texas, Seabotix, and Zyvex Technologies.
The Navy League of the United States will host the Maritime Pavilion once again in 2013 with a larger footprint. Please contact Lindsey Lassiter, llassiter@navyleague.org, if you would like additional information on DSEi and the Navy League Maritime Pavilion.
