Greetings!

Each year around this time, the museum asks its membership and friends to consider making a donation. You may already have received a letter explaining that the museum only receives 50% of its funding from government sources. The remainder we raise through admissions, programs, events and fundraising!

Last year fall, when we asked for your help, the response was incredible and we raised over $13,000.  This year our goal is to raise over $15,000.  The funds raised will help us to continue on our mission to preserve, inspire and educate.

If you have not already done so, please consider making a donation to support the work of the museum--I can assure you, that we work hard to wring value out of every penny.  If you have already donated, let me take this opportunity to thank you for your wonderful generosity. Together we're making the museum stronger for the future and ensuring that generations to come will continue to benefit from the lessons and stories of our maritime history.

Sincerely,

Simon Robinson

MUSEUM EXHIBITS

Opening November 24

For countless generations, Squamish people hunted, fished, gathered resources, engaged in battle, and welcomed visitors from their canoes. Across the region that would become Vancouver, these were the vehicles that literally bound together life on the land and sea. This special exhibition will take visitors through the lifecycle of a Squamish canoe-from its roots in a stand of local temperate rainforest, through the hands of Squamish craftsmen, and throughout the Salish Sea. Squamish carvers are renowned for crafting seven types of specialized canoes. Discover how these watercraft continue to connect the Squamish people to each other and the wider world.

As part of Vancity's supporting sponsorship of the exhibit, we are pleased to offer Vancity members 2 for 1 admission until January 2. Cannot be combined with other discounts.

Movies to Sea
reunites the viewer with historical pop culture through the use of movie posters from the 1940s-1960s.

In the J. Torben Karlshoej Gallery until  November 28.

Winter wander In Vanier park
Vanier Park is a cultural hub that many Vancouver residents know little about, and on Saturday, December 3 the six cultural institutions that call Kitsilano's biggest park home will be celebrating this hidden treasure with a significantly reduced rate for visitors.

Vanier Park is home to the Maritime Museum, the Museum of Vancouver, the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, Bard on the Beach, Vancouver Academy of Music, and the City of Vancouver Archives.

The Winter Wander in Vanier Park is a one day event in which Vancouverites and their families can enjoy a taste of what all of Vanier Park's cultural institutions have to offer for one rate that includes all venues. Adult admission will be just $5 to visit all locations, and children 16 and under will visit for free. Free for Museum Members.
