A Mother's Inspiration

Patient at The Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders,

Fort Worth Central Campus

This Mother's Day, Christine Garcia will receive something special from her son that cannot be bought in any store -  the gift of inspiration. Her son, Eduardo, will give her this gift, just as he has done every day since she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

"He's the reason I wake up and fight for my life every day. He's my world," says Christine, a patient of
Dr. Ganesa.

After being diagnosed in September 2011, Christine began chemotherapy at the
Fort Worth Central Campus and recently underwent a double mastectomy, just two weeks after her son's 6th birthday.

As a single mom to "EJ", as she affectionately calls him, Christine knows first hand the challenges of parenting with cancer. But she doesn't let that stop her from giving him all the love and support he needs and cooking him dinner every night. The two often share movie nights and recently participated in the Race for the Cure together.

"You have to be honest and don't be afraid to talk," Christine advises other parents with cancer.

While the majority of Christine's family lives in Florida and other states, they have been very supportive. She credits her sister's daily phone calls as another thing that keeps her going. Her friends and her faith have also helped her get through her battle.

"God knows what we can handle and He knows I can handle this," she says.

Christine's message of hope to other survivors is: "Fight for your life. Stay strong. Don't give up."
