Summer is hot and so are we! A blaze of highly advanced cancer-fighting drugs are now available to our patients with dozens of active clinical trials offered through our partnership with the Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI), an internationally recognized drug research organization. Clinical trials offer access to the most promising investigational cancer treatments. Check with your doctor or
Joyce Wallace, Clinical Research Manager at The Center, for more details on getting involved.

The scorching summer sun heat didn't keep too many away from the Parker County Peach Festival. Thanks to all of our staff, physicians and volunteers those who braved the blazing heat at the Parker County Peach Festival. We enjoyed handing out free sunscreen as a part of our commitment to the health of our community.

The weather was much cooler in Dec. 2010 when we first began our Hope Elevated newsletter. We're so pleased that more than 1,600 of our employees, physicians, patients and others receive our message of hope each month. We celebrated our success by drawing two names at random and giving them restaurant gift cards. Congratulations to Janette Richey and Agnes McAllister!

Fired up may be the best way to describe our enthusiasm for these new projects to help you and your loved ones. These additions reflect our steadfast commitment to keep the flame burning in our mission of healing lives and advancing care.

Terry's Story of Hope

Peace of mind, sometimes that's hard to achieve in our daily lives even when things are going great. I feel that dealing with a life threatening disease like cancer, that it is essential we try our best to have peace of mind. What is peace of mind? I recently found this definition: it is a state of inner calmness and tranquility, together with a sense of freedom, when thoughts and worries cease and there is no stress, strain or fear.

Some people may ask how I can have a cancer like multiple mylenoma and have this kind of peace. I believe one of the most important things we can do as a cancer fighter is to live life one day at a time. I have no control over tomorrow.

I'm not going to bring tomorrow's problems and fears into today. Today has its own problems and I will deal with those. I fully understand that cancer may take my life  and it may take tomorrow, but I will not let it take today from me.

Living your life one day at a time goes a long way in achieving this kind of peace. I have this peace and I hope and pray that you will be able to find it. Hope Elevated!

Chaplain's Corner

by Paul Glenn, CCBD Chaplain

A cancer patient today has much to be hopeful about. The rise in number of cases diagnosed in recent decades has been followed by the rise in individualized treatments, improvements in medications, deepened knowledge about causes and cures, advancements in medical procedures and general interest by professionals and the public alike.

Here at The Center we see miracles taking place every day. Knowledge comes to us from The Source of knowledge. He has made each one of us. What He has made, He will keep and direct and protect. This is His promise. We can be thankful.
