President's Message

Dear Valued Customers & Industry Colleagues,

School is officially out and summer is here. I hope you take the opportunity to enjoy the season and relax a bit!

EDI recently enjoyed an awesome day with our customers and industry partners on our annual Chattooga River whitewater rafting adventure. This year's trip was one of the best ever thanks to Cynthia Glendale who worked hard planning the event. Next year's great adventure is already in the works for May 3, 2013 - we're aiming earlier next year for higher water levels. Stay tuned! We are considering adding a continuing education component to the trip next year, so please, let us know if you think this is a good idea and have any suggestions. Click here to view pictures of this year's adventure!

We have been very busy here at EDI helping our customers and expanding our knowledge. Recently, EDI's entire staff completed training in Lean Six Sigma and received Yellow Belt certification after passing a written examination. While many of us gained some new vocabulary (Kaizen, A3 Thinking, Gemba Walk, etc.), the ideas and concepts behind Lean Six Sigma are nothing new to EDI. We have been building a quality culture for the last 25 years.

Our exciting new REDI Room audio-visual product is now live on our website and ready to help you plan your audio-visual needs. It's the perfect tool when you need some AV design help for a limited number of rooms and spaces, which may not justify hiring a consultant like EDI. Click here to learn more.

For those of you attending the ASHE Annual Conference this July in San Antonio I hope you can join Jim Harrison and me for our presentation on "Improved Clinical Work Flow Through Converged Communicationson July 17 at 3:15 PM. We will highlight enhancements to clinical workflows enabled by converged communication and technologies and present several case study examples. Hope to see you in San Antonio!

And finally, I want to welcome Carl Emery to EDI. Carl joined us back in April and works in our Atlanta Office. He is a great addition to our team, and we are glad to have him.

Sincerely,

Don's Shortened Signature

Nurse Call Planning Process for Choosing a System
Beth Bandi - Vice President, Sales & Marketing-Southeast, Central, & Mid-Atlantic Regions

Hospitals today are faced with many challenges for having a Nurse Call system - regulatory requirements (such as UL 1069), costs to maintain multiple types of competitive and aging systems, and the burden placed on healthcare systems to leverage communications within their clinical staffs. In addition, these systems are now critical and pivotal clinical communication pathways for mobile clinicians, Environmental Services (EVS), and Transport Teams. But, this is just the tip of the iceberg!

3D Technology & Education in Healthcare

Nancy Byrd - CTS, LEED GA - Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Central, Mountain, & Western Regions

Nancy Byrd3D technology has become the entertainment of choice, bringing movies to life in the theaters and even in our homes. Many K-12 classrooms and higher education institutions now use 3D to present content to students. With 3D changing the way we learn in the classrooms, many healthcare facilities are turning to using it as well for "clinical simulations".

"The days of medical and nursing students practicing on real patients might be numbered. Today, many doctors and nurses in training are making their first diagnoses - and their first mistakes - on plastic, wires, and computer circuits rather than flesh and blood." (eSchool News)
