Nurse Call Systems - Not Your "Call Bells" Any Longer
By Beth Bandi

Beth Bandi with FrameNurse call systems, as a whole, are actually one of the best communication methods that every hospital has for direct communications between patients and caregivers. However, over the last 69 years, nurse call systems have received a bad rap.

I've heard nurse call systems referred to as "call bells", "cow bells", "call systems", "nurse crap systems", "can't hear the damn patient system", "make me work more system", "this doesn't work system", "check on them system", and my favorite, "way too much cost for nothing system".

What's really amazing to me, though, is that any hospital would even have one of these systems after hearing bad things about them for so many years.

Congratulations and Welcome !

Congratulations to Nancy Byrd, EDI's newest addition to EDI's Sales Team. Nancy is VP Business Development for the Central Mountain Region, including Colorado, where she hails from. Nancy's background is in audio-visual technology and business development. She is also CTS Certified and a LEED Green Associate, all of which make her an excellent fit for EDI.

Previously from Tennessee, but now a resident of Denver, Nancy enjoys trail running through the gorgeous Colorado Mountains, in addition to attending film festivals as travel allows.

EDI has also added Kelsey Kinser to our Atlanta Office as our new Sales Support Specialist. She is working closely with EDI's entire Sales Team, learning the ins and outs of sales and marketing.

Yes, EDI has another "Kinser" on board - Kelsey is Don Kinser's daughter - and, a very welcome addition to the team!

RIP VGA

By Brian Murphey

Brian Murphey with FrameIntel, AMD, Dell, Samsung, and several other electronics manufacturers have announced that by 2015 they will no longer support analog connections, including the popular VGA connector. These manufacturers will only support digital connections such as HDMI, DVI-D, and DisplayPort. This means that by 2015 laptops and PCs sold in the United States will likely no longer have an analog VGA connection.

Now you may be thinking, "Big deal! I've never even heard of VGA, so why should I care what happens to it?"

You need to care because VGA is not planning on going quietly.

EDI New Projects & Updates

Congratulations to Capital Health on the completion of their new Capital Health Medical Center - Hopewell in Pennington, NJ. This new hospital successfully opened its doors on November 6, 2011, replacing the healthcare system's 112-year old Mercer Hospital.

Congratulations are also in order for Parkview Regional Medical Center, who opened their doors to new patients on March 17, 2012. This revolutionary facility, and its health-centered campus, will improve access to healthcare for their entire region.
Parkview Topping Out with Frame
The University of Colorado Hospital recently held a "topping out" party to commemorate completion of the steel framing for their new hospital building. Everyone on hand signed the last steel beam before it was hoisted into place. And, as tradition has it - a Christmas tree was also placed on the beam.

The schematic design phase is nearing completion for the new Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU in Richmond, VA. When complete, this new Children's Pavilion will provide pediatric services in a safe, secure, and welcoming environment.

Construction documents have been completed for the new student services building and parking garages at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN. This new facility is scheduled to open in 2014.
