Message from the President

Dear EDI Customers and Industry Partners,

Welcome to our summer EDItion. Summer always seems to be a busy time and this summer looks to be no exception. We have been busy the past several months here at EDI with a number of initiatives and events.

Recently, we held our annual Project Management Summit for our entire staff. With so many of our staff dispersed across the country it is important to take time to come together, share our experiences, learn from one another, and discuss what is working well, what could be better, and what we are all seeing out there "in the trenches." We are always working to improve our performance and add more value for our customers. Meetings like this are an important part of that effort.

It is also important to learn from our customers, as well. Our recent HIT Executive Forum allowed us to learn from five healthcare industry thought leaders. The forum was a great success, and we want to thank all those who participated. Cindy Cates tells you more about this event and what we learned in her article below.

Those of you who know me personally know my passion for whitewater rivers, and in particular the Chattooga River. It is my favorite place on earth, and each year since 2005 I have had the privilege of sharing this wonderful resource with many of you during EDI's annual RiverFest. This year was no exception, and I hope all of you who were able to join us for RiverFest 2011 had a great time. See more about this awesome trip below and enjoy the great slide show that Cynthia Glendale put together.

Please join me in extending a warm welcome to John Darby, EDI's newest Associate. If you are interested in working for EDI, please check out our Career page on our new website - in fact, check out our NEW website and new look! And last, but not least, special congratulations to Carrie Ogden on her recent graduation from Kennesaw State University.

As always, thank you for your business, and we hope you find this information valuable.

Sincerely,

Don Kinser, PE, MBA

RiverFest 2011 2011 RiverFest

Every year, EDI says thank you to its customers and industry partners by inviting them into the wild and scenic surrounds of South Carolina for a day of "intense" fun.  This year was no different.  After a day whitewater rafting Section IV of the Chattooga River, a mouth-watering BBQ was served up. We know everyone had a fabulous adventure.  HOW, you ask?  Because the "chatter" on the bus ride back to Atlanta was MUCH LOUDER than the bus ride up!  Right, Mike?  Here's to RiverFest 2012!

Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) Executive ForumCindy Cates

By Cindy Cates, Secretary & Treasurer - EDI

EDI recently hosted its first Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) Executive Forum at our corporate office in Atlanta. One of our foremost goals for this forum was to "walk in our clients' shoes" for a few hours. To help us achieve this, we asked a distinguished group of healthcare IT professionals to join us, and we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the following:

  • Mr. Ed Brown, CIO - Gwinnett Medical Center
  • Ms. Dee Cantrell, CIO - Emory Healthcare
  • Mr. Jack Storey, CIO - Children's of Alabama, Birmingham
  • Mr. Stephen Edge, Chief Enterprise Architect - WellStar Health System
  • Dr. Julie Hollberg, Medical Director - Emory Healthcare IT

John Darby

EDI welcomes John Darby, VP Business Development in our Seattle Office. John brings a combination of team leadership, strategic planning, and organization development skills with him that he has used in previous positions. As CEO & President of Digital Efficiency in Olympia, WA, John developed a strategic plan to implement Health Information Technology solutions for small healthcare practices. This valuable experience will enable him to lead the way as EDI seeks to become the leader in its market.

  Carrie Ogden

Congratulations, Carrie!

Please join us in congratulating Carrie Ogden on her recent graduation from Kennesaw State University with a BA in Accounting. Carrie is excited about tackling new and exciting accounting projects. That is, once she gets over the excitement of her upcoming "graduation cruise" to the Caribbean!

New Projects & Updates

New Projects

Virginia Commonwealth Universith Health System (VCUHS) Children's Hospital of Richmond Pavilion - EDI is providing telecommunications infrastructure and security consulting services for this new hospital project.

Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) is in the process of designing and constructing a new Student Services Building with two adjacent parking garages. EDI is providing technology consulting and engineering services for this project.

Project Updates

MaineGeneral

MaineGeneral

MaineGeneral -  EDI recently completed the first round of user meetings at MaineGeneral. Our Revit Server has been set up, linked, and is now communicating to the servers used by the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) team. This allows us to work in the same model as the electrical contractor and  engineer to place devices, providing real-time coordination. IPD is a new concept in project design and construction where the construction team, design team, and hospital all actively participate in the project design from start to finish, allowing the hospital to be built faster, smarter, and with less cost. MaineGeneral is one of first projects EDI has participated on for this type of project delivery.

Parkview Regional Medical Center - less than 270 days until this new facility oens in Fort Wayne, IN. Ground was broken for this project in 2008, and EDI has been working with Parkview ever since, providing IT design and consulting services.
